The expansion of the Cudahy city limits in 1853 followed the incorporation of the town of Cudahy into the City of San Francisco on January 1, 1854. The first building in what is now downtown Cudahy was a schoolhouse built by Reverend John Leland in 1852. In 1858, a store and office block were erected at Tenth and Mission Streets. A millinery shop and dairymaid’s cottage were added to the block in 1861. In 1865, an insurance company was organized, and a grocery store was built at Second and Harrison Streets. A post office was founded at Third and Harrison Streets on December 15, 1865. The first mail delivery from San Francisco took place on January 2, 1866. A depot for goods destined for California arrived at Fourth Street opposite First Avenue in 1870-71. In 1872-73 local farmers established a cooperative market garden at Seventh Street near First Avenue which continued until 1886 when it was replaced by what is now called Market Plaza
Cudahy is a small city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 13,865 at the 2010 census. It is bordered by Agoura Hills to the south and east, Sherman Oaks to the north and west, and Bel Air to the northwest. The name Cudahy comes from two sources: one source is named for Samuel Cummins who settled there in 1859 and another comes from early Spanish settlers who called it "Cuadrahey" meaning "land of five rivers." The first settlement was on land that now forms part of the eastern edge of Agoura Hills. In 1881, James L. Cudahy bought 1/2 mile (1 km) of Rancho Pulaski which included what is now the town site. The town started as a small post office on April 12, 1886 with Edward Hickey as postmaster general. On March 24, 1889 an Act to organized a municipal government for Santa Clara County was enacted by voters at a meeting held in the old schoolhouse in downtown Cudahy under the auspices of A Better Government Society; this act provided for election of board members and establishment of fire departments etc., including streets and public square within limits laid out by act – all within six months from its passage! Three years later on October 6th 1892 an Act providing for annexation of portions drained by Coyote Creek into Santa Clara County passed both houses with only one dissenting vote! The first mayor was Wm Jenssen (1893-1904). After World War I there were many changes: 1917 - 1919 - 1923 - 1927 - 1929 - 1931 Mayor Harry Bendixen resigned due to ill health; 1933 Mayor John Fenton took office; 1938 Mayor Arturo Lopez resigned due to term limitation; 1940 Mayor Manuel Gomez became acting mayor until his election as county supervisor in 1941 In 1951 annexation proceedings were begun against Exposition Park near downtown because that area had been developed primarily for farm use while much undeveloped rural land remained adjacent thereto roads leading thereto were improved but no development ever took place because Expo park trustees successfully appealed decisions made during those proceedings In 1957 redevelopment Authority voted not to proceed any further with plans forExposition Park Development Plan because lack of funding could be overcome By 1962 Exposition Park had become valuable commercial property servingretailers neighboring Downtown Los Angeles For more than three decades thereafter efforts have been made unsuccessfully culminating in developer's successful bid for City Council approval in 2001 which resulted in abandonment or conversionof much unused Exposition Park lands into mixed-use development now known as Westwood Village There are several theories about why Expo park failed To become economically viable it would have needed significant improvements such as increased access to transportation & parking grounds adjacenttoDowntownLA& surrounding neighbourhoods being developed instead agricultural lands around it being converted intoresidential areas

In 1916, the City Council of Cudahy incorporated as a nonprofit corporation with a mandate to promote public welfare and provide services for residents living within its boundaries. Today, over 350 families live within city limits and contribute to its diverse culture and economy which totals $101 million annually!

The valley was formed by the flow of the Sacramento River through a long and narrow gap in the Sierra Nevada. As the river cut through this gap, it created a deep central depression that became known as The Canyon. This depression was filled with alluvium from the many rivers that passed through it.
