In the early 1900s, Cudahy was a small town in the far-west corner of California. It was known for its fruit orchards and ranches. However, by the 1920s, it had become a center for optical technology development. One of the first pioneers in optical technology development in Cudahy was Sperry Rand Corporation. In 1922, they developed the Rondel lens, which revolutionized photography. The company also created an image intensifier called the Sperry Darlington beam splitter. This device allowed photographers to capture multiple images at once and single out the best one to be used in print media or television broadcasts. Other major players in optical technology development during this time include GE and Burroughs Wellcome Company.GE developed various photoelectric scanners that allowed people to photograph documents electronically without having to carry around physical negatives. Additionally, their photoconductive printing press made it possible for people to produce large quantities of prints quickly and easily using inexpensive materials

Residents can find schools close by such as Edison High School which offers classes for students in grades 9th through 12th; Eastlake Elementary School; South Pasadena Unified School District's Edison Middle School; North Pasadena Elementary School; Westside Elementary School; Willowbrook Intermediate/Secondary school; Playfair Intermediate/Secondary school; Highland Oaks Middle/Secondary school (Grades 7-8); Rancho Palos Verdes Union High School ( Grades 9-12).

However, through initiatives like the Stroud Plan and Mexicali Valley Community Redevelopment Act (MVCRA), some redevelopment has occurred since then that has helped revived downtown Fresno and its neighborhoods as well as creating new jobs throughout Fresno County.
The first permanent settler in the area was Manuel Nieto, who arrived in 1847. In 1853, James Haughton organized a group of settlers and named them the Haughs. The name change to Cudahy in 1865 when it became part of Sacramento County. The first post office at Cudahy was established in 1867, and mail was delivered from Sacramento to Cudahy by wagon. August Busch built the first store on Main Street in Cudahy in 1870. The town's population reached 100 people by 1880. Businesses prospered due to the high demand for goods brought overland from California. By 1890, however, Cudahy had declined due to disease, lack of support infrastructure, and competition from nearby towns such as Elk Grove Village and Yuba City. In 1903, William Jansen purchased land east of Main Street and began construction on what would become his cattle ranch. Jansen offered free land to anyone who donated $1 per acre; this offer led to increased traffic along Main Street because people wanted to buy access to his property. By 1916, Jansen had constructed a large ranch house and other outbuildings that served as the nucleus of what is now known as Rancho Cudahey Park. In 1926, ranchers Harry Ebert and Al Smith bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) east of Rancho Cudahey Park from Wm Jansen for $2 per acre; this allowed them expanded their operations westward into San Bernardino County (now Riverside County). A fire destroyed most of Rancho Cudahey Park on Christmas Day 1922;izophony caused many injuries during the fire which took almost two weeks to control
