Cudahy, California is a small town located in the Mojave Desert of southern California. The population was 2,831 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the San Bernardino County metropolitan area. Cudahy is situated on Route 66 between Pomona and Indio and has a post office with ZIP code 92334. The name "Cudahy" may come from the local tree, Knowledge (cudahy) tree, which grows near Interstate 10 and Route 66. The tree's seeds are used to make dye for fabrics and other items. according to legend, an Indian woman named Hennessey visited the town in 1887 and saw what she thought was a white oak growing next to I-10 east of town. She notified some men who prospected for oil in that area about her sighting so they began chopping down the cudahey tree for lumber in 1887. In 1912, Wanda Sanger wrote an article about life in Cudahy for "Forbes". Upon publication, the town received many visitors from all over Southern California because they were curious about her article's mention of wine made from grapes grown at nearby Pico Vineyards & Winery. In 1916 John Fenton bought land adjacent to present day Highway 66 and built his first home there in 1924; he became one of Cudahy's earliest residents and continued living there until his death in 1984. He left behind an extensive collection of art including paintings by Hughes (1924), Nash (1927), Hopper (1929), Modigliani (1920s) and others during his lifetime as well as numerous artifacts associated with his life such as carriages made by George Boulanger & Co., telephones, clocks etc... Today portions of Fenton Ranch still stand vacant with only a few cows grazing on them while much more remains within walking distance of modern day Cudahy where you can find both residences dating back to 1926/27 as well as several businesses catering to tourists such as gift shops, restaurants etc...virtually everything found within easy driving distance today once enjoyed by locals including but not limited to: Pico Vineyards & Winery; Mineral Wells Casino Resort; Cowboys Lunch; Golden State Golf Course; Stonington Speedway Museum

It has a population of about 100 people and is home to the historical Gadsden Museum.
Cudahy was founded in 1873 by Nicholas Cudahy and his co-founder, John F. Daly. The town was named for the nearby Sacramento River. It became an agricultural center, with cotton, wheat, and other crops being grown. In the early 20th century, Cudahy had a population of around 1,000 people. However, it declined in popularity after World War II as agriculture deteriorated and technology replaced manual labor with machines.
