Covina, California is home to the world's largest gun show. The show has been taking place since 1903. It is an important event for the firearms industry and big enough to warrant its own exposition hall on two floors of the Covina Civic Center. The first shootings at the show took place in 1911 when two people were killed and thirteen injured by a gunman who opened fire at a fairgrounds fair. Covina, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Covina is located on the north side of Kern County and is bordered by Bakersfield to the east and Upend to the west. It lies within ZIP Code 92336. The name Covina comes from Spanish meaning "ravine" or "hill". The ravine ran through this area for many years and provided a natural defensive barrier against Native American attacks. In 1853, James Hutton built a rancho called Covina y Las Palmas on part of what is now known as Estrada del Paso East Road. From this rancho, he sold land to various families until his death in 1878. In 1905, Covina became an incorporated city with a population of about 50 people. In 1927 it merged with Bakersfield into one municipality with a total population of over 120 people. The merger caused some controversy because Covina was not given equal rights as Bakersfield had when it merged. A new community hall was built in 1935 and remains operational today as the Municipal Building/Hall of Records for Covina Community College District No 2 (MBCD2). In 1966 Covina City Hall was destroyed by fire which left no survivors other than library staff who were able to save all their materials including artwork housed inside the building; these items are currently on display at Loyola Marymount University's Archives Campus in Los Angeles Covina has always been home to many businesses and residents have long enjoyed its easy access toI-5 southbound which makes shopping easy while also providing access to restaurants, gas stations and other amenities throughout town center

In 1821, Covina became part of Alta California with Mexico City as its capital. In 1881, when San Diego County became an independent county, Covina remained within its borders. The following year saw the opening of a new waterworks system that helped bring about heavy development throughout much of downtown Covina and beyond including near present-day Park Vista Boulevard on the east side of town In 1907, a new courthouse opened downtown which still stands today In 1916 Garden Grove amalgamated with neighboring cities Garden Grove and Norwalk forming what would become one of Southern California's most populous cities That same year also saw simultaneous openings of two other small airports serving nearby communities: Ontario Airport (now referred to as Charter Air) west of town and Menifee Valley Airport on Menifee Road northwest of town . These airports would help spur even more growth over time including several high-rise buildings such as One Grant Avenue which still stands today ). By 1945 Covina had grown so large that it separated from Santa Fe Springs becoming its own municipality . During World War II many jobs were created for local residents such as munitions manufacturing or shipbuilding ; however many total jobs don't exist anymore due to suburbanization . However some businesses that did survive include Subway sandwich shops which remain open today despite moving out into newer buildings years ago
In 1847, Covina was founded by James W. Covina and his wife Anna Maria. The first post office in Covina was open in 1851. In 1863, the City of Covina was incorporated as a city with a population of 10,000 people. In 1881, the city had a population of 25,000 people and it became an independent municipality in 1902. In 1917, the city annexed parts of Montebello and La Crescenta to form a new municipality known as La Crescenta-Montebello. On November 8, 1928, the city merged with El Monte to form the City of Los Angeles.
