Patton Jr.– making it one of only two towns in Orange County that have had its name changed multiple times. Architecturally, both when new and renovated since then, Costa Mesa has been highly praised for its modern architecture which features high-rise buildings and sleek public works projects like Memorial Drive Parkade. In recent years there has been a large upsurge in development around downtown Costa Mesa; this growth has led to increased traffic congestion on busy arteries such as I-5 and Ventura Boulevard as well as more parking issues near campus campuses including UC Irvine and Cal Poly Pomona University.
