In 1846, the California Gold Rush brought about a new era for firearms in Coronado. The town was quickly overrun with gunslingers and outlaws looking to make a quick buck. One of the first weapons to be purchased in town was a Native American rifle called the Kaweah. This weapon became popular among those who wanted to protect themselves from raiders and other desperadoes on the open plains. The popularity of handguns soon followed, as many people felt that rifles were too dangerous to use around small children or unarmed civilians. As time passed, more and more people started owning handguns in order to protect themselves from robbers and other criminals. Gun slings became another important part of Californian culture, as they served as an important way for people to carry their weapons without having them stored inside their homes or carried on their person like some sort of magical item.

In 1542, Don Francisco de Haro and his brother Diego created the province of Alta California in what is now San Diego County. The area that would become Coronado was part of this new province and it was only in 1602 that Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto discovered and named this area Los Padres National Park. The first white man to set foot in present-day Coronado was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on November 4, 1769. He had sailed from Mexico City with a group of Spanish soldiers looking for a route to Asia. After spending several weeks ashore at Chula Vista, he decided against going any further and returned to Mexico City. In 1821, General Antonio Lopez Bonilla led an expedition down the coast of California from Sonoma to Santa Barbara. His goal was to find a way across the Isthmus of Panama so that Spain could control the entire West Coast of America. While exploring near Carmelita Island, Bonilla discovered Palo Alto Creek and decided to name it after his unit (the 1st Battalion Mexican Infantry Regiment). The town of Coronado began as an agricultural community located along Palo Alto Creek about one mile east of where it meets Highway 101 today. The first store opened in 1853 by John Waddell and family. Waddell built a sawmill damselfly stream flows below his millrace between Boulder Creek and Palomar River which became known as Waddells Mill Pond or just Ponderosa Stream because no one knew how deep it went until 1906 when they drilled a well thereabouts! During World War II much business took place at Mountain View Naval Base on Yorba Linda Street near Stevenson Boulevard including many Navy officers who lived on blocks bordered by Orchard Road, Alma Street, Seventh Avenue North, Vallejo Boulevard (now University Avenue), Newport Drive (now Imperial) Streets; their families resided in barracks located on Army Air Force bases nearby: Naval Air Station(s) Catalina Island(s), El Toro(s), Seal Beach(s), Topekaiffe(s), Vandenberg AFB north Orange County; Davis-Monthan AFB AZ; Nimitz AFB CA; Andersen AFB Guam; Peleliu Islands Suva Ata/Nagasaki Japan

Located in the Tejon Mountains, Coronado was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. The area was later claimed by Spain and then California. In 1846, Mexico won its independence from Spain and became a republic. On January 20, 1850, California acquired most of what is now Arizona and Nevada through the Mexican-American War. On February 14, 1851, President Millard Fillmore signed legislation creating the United States of America. Coronado became part of this new country as well as San Diego County. The town of Coronado grew rapidly during this time and soon boasted a population of over 10,000 people. In 1869, gold was discovered at Sespe in Sonoma County and began to be mined here. This led to increased traffic into and around Coronado and also caused some construction activity here along the HWY 101 corridor. However, it would not be until after World War II that development really started to take hold in Coronado. This was due to two things: growing production at nearby mines (which continued until 1974) as well as an influx of young people looking for a more relaxed lifestyle than found in downtownSan Diego or coastal counties such as Santa Barbara or Ventura. The 1990s were another busy period for Coronado with many developments taking place on North Main Street between Third Street and Fourth Street; including a Borders bookstore (later closed), restaurants such as Chili’s Tex-Mex Grill & Cantina (closed 1984), Lululemon Athletica (opened 1985), Stonehenge Golf Course & Marina (opened 1992), etcetera.—all while still keeping much of the historical architecture intact! Today there are few if any active businesses located within downtownCoronado other than several small stores which cater mostly to tourists or locals who want to explore more locally before returning home later that day/weekend—an interesting trend given today’s global economy! Overall though, despite some recent disappointments (e.g., closure of Stonehenge Golf Course & Marina earlier this year), overall things seem positive forCoronado residents and tourists who visit our charming little town….or even stay awhile!
The Spanish settlement of San Diego and present-day Coronado began as Mission San Diego in 1769. The mission was founded by Father Junípero Serra, with the assistance of the military governor Francisco Drake. The first native residents of San Diego were the Tongva people, who started living in what is now downtownSan Diego in 1810. After Mexican independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico purchased California from the United States for $18 million. On February 14, 1850, California became a state when its citizens voted against U.S. annexation; however, the Californios continued to beority within their new country until 1862 when they regained full self-government under Governor Manuel Micheltorena. In 1868–69 Mormon pioneers discovered land on Mount Kinney and named it Salt Lake Valley after Joseph Smith's church headquarters at Nauvoo, Illinois (now Chicago). The area was then organized into nine counties: Alta County (in today's east side), Baja County (west side), Camarillo County (southeast corner), Contra Costa County (northwest corner), Davis County (southwest corner), Imperial County (central corner) and Orange County (east coast). In 1912 Disneyland opened as an amusement park by American brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney near Anaheim Hills; it would later become part of ABC Studios before being developed into its current form as a theme park with Sleeping Beauty Castle built on Friars Hill in 1955.
