Coronado, California is a small town in San Diego County, California. It is located on the mainland of Southern California and bordered by the city of Chula Vista to the north and east, Mission Hills to the south, and Imperial Beach to the west. The population was 853 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now Coronado were SpanishCaptain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo (1542-1621) on October 12, 1542. He sighted land off San Diego Bay but could not land because of strong tides. landfall he made may have been farther up or down coast, as no one knows for certain. A subsequent Spanish expedition under Antonio de Borja landed four days later and named it San Marcos after Marqués de Monterey who had landed there earlier that year with his father Francisco Vasquez de Balboa (1484-1541). On November 11, 1543 Pánfilo Fernández de Oviedo discovered an uninhabited island near present-day Coronado which was given its name by him - Isla del Flamenco (Island of Flaming Fire). In 1602 Englishman John Hawkins reached Baja California from Acapulco and sailed along what is now known as Santa Barbara Strait before sailing all the way around Cape Horn on his ill-fated search for El Dorado in 1602–03. In 1769 Spaniard Gaspar Gallegos becamethe first European to explore Point Loma (modern day Pacific Beach) when he anchored off shore from Point Conception about three miles northeast of today's town center ashore on December 5th while trying unsuccessfully to find a passage between North America and Asia through Prince Of Wales Channel. From this point forward exploration inland followed various trails until 1821 when Mexican troops burned all records of United States presence in Mexico City before withdrawing across Sinaloa River into Arizona Territory

Benicia Woodson (1903-1907), writer Sinclair Lewis (1920-1985) and actor Clint Eastwood (1958-2018). Each individual has left their mark on Coronados residents through their work or appearance within the community; Woodson is particularly remembered for her work towards creating public housing in San Francisco Bay Area during the1950s while Lewis was responsible for developing Sue Street into one of SFs most famous streets moniker after his characters home on it – "Moby Dick". Overall, Coronado has seen many changes throughout its lifespan – from being a small farming town during prohibition days to becoming one of Northern California’s most vibrant cities following World War II before experiencing another period Of growth until today where it remains a popular tourist destination with millions visit each year!
While the area around Coronado is known for its dramatic coastlines and wild animals, it also has a rich history of human activity. The first Europeans to arrive in the area were Spanish missionaries, who established outposts along present-day California's central coast in Missions Bay and San Diego Bay in 1821. In 1848, Mexico acquired California from United States by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican–American War. As part of this treaty, Mexico ceded control over Alta California to Britain as well. This region was then divided between British and American ownership until 1910 when it was again united under Mexican rule. The area around Coronado became one of the most heavily populated areas on both sides of the border during this time. The post office atCoronado was founded on July 24, 1859, by Jno. A. Moore with intent to serve residents living near Mission Bay and San Diego Harbor. The name "Coronado" was given due to its resemblance to a ship's forecastle or "crown". The mission at Coronado closed in 1862 after only four years due to lack of funds; however, some religious zealots continued to operate a smallpox hospital within the mission complex until 1865. Today there are no remains of either building extant but numerous artifacts remain from that period including pieces of furniture used by mission officials and tools used by local farmers
