The town's first growth came during its incorporation as an unincorporated community on February 14, 1901 under the name Westminster-Corona Heights. When state Senator John Wickersham resigned from office in 1911 to take up private practice he decided to move into Del Valle's home so he could continue living without fear of robbery or invasion by criminals who had made off with his belongings while he slept at home that day! On September 10 of that year approval was given for the new town's charter which stated: "It is hereby proposed that we form a body politic and call ourselves City of Corona." On October 5th officials convened a meeting with local businessmen to approve plans for streets and other public improvements which included building a water tower across frompresentday Vista Boulevard which served as business district until 1925 when Interstate 20W bypassed it completely

The first European to visit what is now Corona was Gaspar de Portolà, who named it after the town of Coronado in southern California.
