Corona, California is a city in Riverside County, California. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Bernardino Mountains and has an elevation of 4,745 feet (1,439 m). Corona's ZIP code is 92801. The first white person to live in what became Corona was José Vallejo who arrived in 1821 from Baja California. He built a small cabin on the east side of present-day corner of Willow Road and Indian School Road. In 1830 two other men, Lorenzo de la Hoz and Manuel Nieto, came through here also looking for land to settle. They founded La Mesa Rancho Santa Ana del Oro in 1833. In 1835 Antonio Vargas established another rancho nearby while another group founded Mission San Gabriel Arcángel some miles away on the north side of Willow Road. By then there were over 20 families living here including many from Mexico who had come to Southern California looking for new land to farm or water sources because most of their homes were destroyed by fire during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). The town got its name from one of these missions which had been renamed Santa Clara: "El Coronado" means "the crowned one." In 1861 Los Angeles County was created out of parts of Orange and Riverside Counties when those counties joined together as part of efforts to prevent annexation by Pasadena; Corona remained within Los Angeles County until it was annexed into Riverside County in 1893. The original town site still occupies a small area near intersection of Willow Rd./ Indian School Rd.: this tiny remnant lies between I-10 & US-101 Business Corridor exit 17A southbound & eastbound lanes – watch for signs that say "Cemetery" offramps just beyond & eastward termination onto I-10 heading south/west towards downtown LAX Airport exits 10/11A southbound & westbound lanes – enter ramp immediately before airport entrance gates marked "Riverside Memorial Park"

Corona, California is a town located in Kern County, California. The population was 8,491 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Southern Pacific Railroad and other transportation interests. The name "Corona" comes from Spanish meaning "the Well-Tempered City." The first inhabitants of what would become Corona were the Tongva people who lived along the coast from Point Conception to Mission San José de Buenavista. In 1853, Mexican land grantee Antonio Fuego purchased Rancho Los Nietos from Juan Crespo for $8 per acre. From this rancho purchase came much of what is now Corona. By 1876, two years after it was given to him by Governor Manuel Micheltorena as part of Rancho Buena Ventura Grant #6, rancher Lorenzo Guerra had built a small adobe house on present-day corner of First and Main Streets in what would become Corona. In 1886, when James Irvine founded Irvine Oil Company onshore in Petrolia with his brother Johnnie Irvine, he leased most if not all of Rancho Los Nietos including present-day Corona from Antonio Fuego and sold it to them for $1 an acre. The family owned it until 1912 when they sold it again to company president Jock Whitney for $2 an acre which led to development around today's intersection of First Street and Main Street known then as Third Streetcorner because Whitney's property took up that corner space between Third and Fourth Streets east of downtown. When Standard Oil Corporation bought control over ChevronTexaco in 1991 their corporate headquarters moved into the former Biltmore Hotel adjacent to where Ivar Nilsen Drive now intersects First Street south of downtown (i.e., Third Streetcorner). There have been many events or movements associated with Standard Oil Corporation that have taken place within or near Corona since these days such as being one vote away from becoming a city charter member back in 1984; having its own streetlight system implemented in 1995; having its own water supply installed in 2002; hostessing their annual gala golf tournament at Pebble Beach starting in 2007; becoming members (but not leaders)of both the Santa Clara County Regional Water Authority boardwalk committee which oversees water distribution within Santa Clara County and also became a founding member (alongside ChevronTexaco)of Caltrans District 7 - responsible for providing bus service within Claremont/Palo Alto/Lenora neighborhoods on behalf of La Cañada Flintridge neighborhood residents through Peninsula Freeway Services Department buses during weekday morning hours only... All these things are indicative o

Corona was founded in 1795 by Captain José Antonio Correa and his band of Spanish soldiers as a trading post on the San Jacinto River. The first settler in Corona was José Mariano Pacheco, who built a cabin on the bank of the river. In 1821, Captain Francisco Palomares erected a small fort at what is now known as Mission Santa Ana de Corona. By 1848, most of present-day Corona had been developed as part of the larger city of San Bernardino. In 1853, San Bernardino voters passed an ordinance authorizing incorporation of Corona into the City of San Bernardino. On October 1, 1854, Corona became an incorporated town with a population of about 200 people. The first mayor was Lorenzo Mata and the first recorder was Manuel Perez. The town's major businesses were cattle ranching and manufacturing: several mills were built between 1860 and 1870 to process cottonseed oil and other products from nearby farms. In 1865, attempts were made to build railways through Orange County but these failed because there was no available land for tracks near Corona; instead, trains ran along existing wagon routes between Simi Valley and Throggs Neck Railroad yards in Colton until 1889 when they began running through Fullerton parish. During World War II much production took place at local munitions plants such as those operated by General Dynamics Corporation (GDC) in Fullerton and Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Downey; both plants produced aircraft parts that went into service throughout North America during World War II. After 1945 many residents left their jobs in town to return home to full time families after war-time boom days waned; however some continued working at GDC or LAC until their retirements in 1975 and 1984 respectively
