After the war ended, Corona began to experience significant social changes as well as economic decline because of new arrivals from outside the region. The townsfolk turned against their new mayor due to his support for Proposition 8 which sought to ban gay marriage within California. This led to numerous riots and civil unrest throughout Overland Park between 2006-2015; this was dubbed "The Year Of The Robber Barons." Since 2000, however, much progress has been made both within and outside of Corona thanks to community activism led by local organizations such as Yes on 6 (now known as La Raza), Homeboy Racism Education Project (HREP), Orange County Register's Rainbow Agenda Coalition (OCRAC), and United We Dream (UWD). In 2017, OCRA successfully passed Measure B which legalized cannabis within California using state owned land in downtown Corona – making it one of only two municipalities in Orange County that have done so since passage of Proposition 64.
