As tensions mounted between America’s newly formed Union army and Confederate forces near Sacramento following Frémont’s march into Sacramento on April 17th 1861 (known as “April Fever”), some residents took up arms against their government; three men were hanged for treason after being caught with rifles at a train station in Concord on May 10th 1861 In 1865 American general Ulysses S Grant ordered all remaining Confederate troops throughout California be disbanded under terms known as “ retribution for peace ” thereby ending any possible threat from that state towards northern Californians . Some facilities associated with this period such as Cameron Air Force Base now occupy property that once comprised part of Concord Township .
