On April 14th 1875 US Marines led by Captain George Armstrong Custer landed at what is now downtown Concord under orders from General Nelson A map made during this time shows an area bounded by present day I-5 south to north (the east side), Broadway street west to east (northwest side), Porter street east to south (southwest side), & Hwy 99N/I-5 northwardly adjacent landlot as follows: This area would come full circle years later when I-5 was built through much of this same land including today's portions of Porter Street between Broadway and Hwy 99N
