The name "Concord" comes from an agreement made between representatives of various Native American tribes in 1847 to resolve differences over land usage. In 1865, when San Francisco became a Chilean protectorate and Mexican soldiers began occupying Californias east of the Río de la Plata, some citizens of Concord wanted to join their compatriots in San Francisco but were overruled by their mayor John Winton. In 1866, during the Spanish–American War, local Marines unsuccessfully attempted to suppress a Huerta Rebellion led by José Joaquín Bernal y Uribe; on September 11th 1898 Monterey Peninsula earthquake destroyed much of downtown San Francisco including much of Concord; and Mayor Winton ordered General Arthur MacArthur to occupy town because it would be difficult to govern without residents On July 6th 1920 Quanah Parker killed six white men near present-day Menlo Park while raiding property belonging to Crow Dog Ranch owner George Armstrong Cattle Company near Menlo Park; five days later on July 10th 1920 Parker was caught and tried before Judge Hiram Johnson at Santa Clara County Courthouse On May 5th 1924 Jerry Lee Lewis was born in Antioch Township northeast of Concord; he would go on to become one of rock & roll's biggest stars

Concord, California is a town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 33,836 at the 2010 census. Concord is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay and is bordered by Walnut Creek to the east and north, Cupertino to the west and south, Fremont to the southeast and Richmond Heights to the southwest. It has a humid continental climate (Köppen: Cfa), typical of Northern California. The first Europeans to visit what is now Concord were Spanish missionaries in 1769–70 aboard their ship "San Felipe". They named it Encinal after Saint Felix of Lérida who had died that year in Peru. In 1849, Gold prospectors discovered gold near Concord and soon after many people came looking for it. The townsite was platted in 1861 by Stanford businessman Wm Hargrave Green with money loaned by John Dutton. A post office called Concord was established in 1863; it was moved from Livermore to Concord in 1868 because Livermore had no water supply. In 1876, a group of men led by James Irvine began irrigation works on part of Rancho Seco which would later become portions of Pleasanton, Fremont and Oakland. On November 15th 1865 two brothers founded what became known as The Sacramento Union paper mill just east of present-day downtown Concord on land purchased from Missionaries Obscenely Profane Baptist Church founder Ebenezer Eaton for $2 per acre ($40 per km²). This started an agricultural society that would grow into one of Northern California's leading grain exports with mills at Belmont (1929) and Menlo Park (1957). Nowadays much smaller mills are scattered throughout old farmlands all around town including Millbrae that reopened as an Mills Open Air Store earlier this year!
