The first settlement at Concord was made on May 27, 1847 by prominent local citizens John Sutter and his brother-in-law Jesse Livermore. The site had been chosen because it was close to water and easy for travelers to get to from other parts of the Bay Area. In 1850, two years after incorporation as a town, Concord became one of six settlements within Contra Costa County when it was split off from San Francisco. In 1915, an act passed by the state legislature changed its name from "Concord" to "Richmond". This change took place because Richmond was then considered part of Contra Costa County while Concord proper belonged to Solano County. On July 16, 1960 – four years after Chronicle Newspapers merged with The Times newspaper group – Richmond became an independent city under its own charter with separate political jurisdiction which persists to this day. The following year saw another merger when Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) merged with Union Gas Company (UGC). This company left behind several large pipelines that were integrated into PG&E’s system when it became nationally dominant in energy production during the 1970s and 1980s; these include Transbay Pipeline which links Oakland and San Francisco directly as well as numerous smaller pipelines across Contra Costa and Alameda counties that service industrial parks throughout Northern California

Concord, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. It was founded by prospectors in 1851. The first post office was established in Concord on December 12, 1851. The flour and feed business that started here became one of the largest and most successful in the area. In 1909, Concord had 1,500 residents and 100 businesses. In 1916 it merged with nearby Bakersfield to form a new city called Bakersfield. However, this merger did not last long as Bakersfield began to decline soon after while Concord flourished. By 1950 Concord had only 350 residents and 20 businesses. By 1970 Concord had only 50 residents and 3 businesses left. Unfortunately for Concord it was quickly overshadowed by more populous cities such as Sacramento and Fresno which grew much faster than Concord during these years. Today, few people live in Concord anymore despite its rich history which can be found throughout its brochures, street names, landmarks and EVEN the local drinking water!
Concord, California was founded by the brothers Jedediah and David Conklin on December 29, 1847. The town was named for the Concord River, which ran through it. The first post office in Concord was opened on January 1, 1850. In 1870, the first university in Contra Costa County was founded at what is now San Jose State University.
