Concord, California is a city of over 150,000 people located in Contra Costa County, in the East Bay region of Northern California. It is the largest city in Contra Costa County by population and the 10th most populous city in the Bay Area of San Francisco. The City of Concord was founded on April 20, 1847 as a result of an agreement between United States President James K. Polk and local politician John A. Alston. The first gun store opened in Concord on October 1, 1848. In 1863, General Ulysses S. Grant made his famous address to a joint meeting of Congress at which he proposed that all Americans be allowed to own arms for self-defense purposes.
