Concord's growth was helped by its location at the crossroads of two important steamboats routes: the Southern Pacific Railroad's Sacramento-San Joaquin Line and the American Railway Company's Stockton-Lodi Line. In 1907, Concord became one of the first cities in California to prohibit smoking in public places. Today, Concord is home to more than 36 thousand people and has been called "the most beautiful city in America." Concord's history can be traced back to 1861 when PASSENGER John C. Fremont and his wife Mary Anne Crosby arrived in what is now Concord from Illinois looking for new land to settle after being denied assistance by the United States government during the Mexican–American War based on their region’s slaveholding history. They found an area that would become Concordia Parish which they named after their daughter Conchita (later renamed Alice). On December 12th, 1861, they moved into their new home and began building a sawmill around which they soon organized a small town chartering themselves an “City of Trees” with 25 residents on February 14th 1872 when they successfully petitioned for incorporation from portions of Shasta County that included Redding Junction where they resided at that time along with several other settlements including Yuba City and New Salem just north of Dixon Creek Mesa where today’s Union High School sits. Those early days were fraught with conflict over who would get rights to developments within their newly created town limits – Passengers or developers? Would trees be planted orared down? By 1863 there were already 2 churches erecting pulpits downtown – one Protestant and one Catholic – both long before any schools were built! And so it went until 1916 when voters approved Measure B prohibiting commercial development within city limits while still allowing residential construction! In 1907 Concord established itself as one of only 3 cities statewide that allowed smoking inside enclosed areas such as restaurants (the others being Oakland and Daly City). That same year also saw passage through state legislature establishing countyhood for Contra Costa County making Concordia Parish part of then newly formed county. The following year saw annexation by Berkeley creating yet another community adjacent to downtown Berkeley making it easier for commuters traveling between those two cities via BART Station! It wasn't all good news though; due largely to high levels air pollution caused by oil production activities going on throughout much of Northern California concurrent with continued agricultural operations near campus some students staged sit-ins at local universities demanding action against environmental racism while others occupied local businesses opponents dubbed "The Black Panthers" - something that would continue apace through much college unrest into the 1970s culminating in Occupy Cal Poly University protests earlier this year... however despite this tumultuous past few decades Concordians have managed Nonetheless maintain strong social media presence often posturing about things like pride week festivities taking place next weekend
