The first settlement in Concord was made by Capt. George Mitchell in 1849 on land granted to him by General Mariano Vallejo during his Campaign against Mexico in1848-9. On July 12th of that year, Captain Mitchell’s group set out from Point Arena with 100 pioneers under his command for what would become Contra Costa County. In 1850, when Hayward got its charter as a town, it included part of present-day Concord but only until 1865 when it became separate again due to boundary changes within Contra Costa County caused by gold discoveries throughout California. Although founded primarily for agriculture – early crops include beets, potatoes and pumpkins – much progress was made through industry before World War II when shipyards were built along Embarcadero Boulevard (now Don Mills Road) and Naval Base Point Reyes became home to one of Northern California’s leading aircraft manufacturers (Marine Aircraft Industries). These days many people know about Concord thanks to three things: especially because they are all located within walking distance: Memorial Stadium (the former home of the Oakland Raiders), Jack London Square (home of Northridge College) and Googleplex which can be found just off I-680 eastbound near MacArthur Boulevard

Concord, California is located in the Central Valley of California. The city was founded by John C. Fremont and named for the Concord River which flows through the city. The population of Concord was about 25,000 in 1848 when it became a part of Nevada Territory. In 1850, when California became a state, Concord came under its jurisdiction and had a population of over 100,000. In 1862, when Sacramento County was created, Concord became one of its original counties. The county seat shifted from Rocklin to Concord in 1876. It has since been re-established as an incorporated town within Sacramento County. The history of Concord goes back to 1849 when John C. Fremont established the City of Rocksalt on Rancho San Carlos de Atwater near present-day Durham City in Nevada Territory (now El Dorado County). He built his home at Rocksalt on the banks of the Kaweah River where he later developed what is now downtown Concord into a thriving small town with shops and businesses along both banks of the river. On February 14th, 1850, Mayor James Fenton granted conditional approval to build a courthouse and jail at $1 per acre on land donated by Jens Jacobsen near what is now Elmira Avenue and Stockton Street in downtown Concord. This building served as the first municipal building in Contra Costa County and was completed in November 1851. There were only 8 enrolled citizens living in Concord at this time but quickly grew from there due to trade connections with nearby towns such as Walnut Creek (later Orinda) and Danville (later Davis). In 1862, after California attained statehood, Contra Costa County was created including parts of what are today Sacramento and Contra Costa Counties; however, most residents within these new counties still lived within their respective municipalities until 1911 when they were consolidated into one single municipality called Sacramento County under then-County President Simeon Rice’s leadership. Concurrently with this changeover many businesses closed down due to consolidation efforts but some continued operations such as The Grapeseed & Cottonseed Merchants Association which operated from 1889 until 1951 before moving out onto I Street near Townsend College until finally closing down decades later due to lack of support from government officials during post-World War II eras Most importantly though during this time period many young men started leaving their homes stateside for good reasons such as opportunity or war service; soon afterwards other families followed suit making up what would become known as “the Lost Generation” who left behind spouses and children back home while tending farms or working odd jobs just like their parents had done before them Just prior to World War II much activity took place centered around developing aircraft production facilities adjacent to San Francisco Airport; however by 1946 all that had changed when military services ended following Japan's surrender leading local businessmen to leave for greener pastures especially after seeing redevelopment opportunities available closer to home including particular attention being given towards MacArthur Air Base resulting in an influx primarily composed predominantly Japanese American workers who began calling themselves "The Yamato Boys." Many old timers say that no matter how hard they tried they could never quite shake off those roots even though they eventually assimilated into society more fully after WWII As time passed various changes occurred both locally & nationally affecting how people related especially economically experiencing rapid technological change thru new media methods lifestyles changed forever improving communications technology becoming easier affordable everyday items were imaginable centralizing government becoming increasingly difficult WW2 era photos featured prominently currency values decreased (& silver replaced gold) social welfare programs increased$$$$$$
