However this did not stop cities from establishing themselves throughout California due to their location within reach by railroads which made transportation easier than ever before Concord experienced another period of growth starting with its incorporation as a city on October 15th 1912 concurrent with statehood movement led by Governor Hiram Johnson After passage by both houses of Congress on July 26th 1913 United States entry into World War 1 resulted in dramatic changes for Concord residents including increased taxes which funded military service while simultaneously reducing available funds meant that many businesses closed their doors unable to compete against war industry During World War 2 much like other localities across America gun sales increased significantly leading some citizens to refer to downtown areas such as Market Street where dealers sold firearms called “the black market” . Additionally munitions plants were established near town boundaries manufacturing bombs, rockets and other explosives used during wartime . As hostilities intensified nightly air raids would occur causing damage or loss if property within 500 feet . Residents quickly formed groups calling themselves “Boys Scouts” or similar organizations seeking protection from aerial bombardment . These groups often banded together selling cookies from homes windows or collected food items dropped off by grocery stores being smuggled into enemy territory
The Concord area was first settled by the Ohlone people in the late 18th century. The town of Concord was founded in 1795, and it became a county seat in 1851.
