The first African American school opened in 1880 in an old chicken coop east of Warner Street; later that year there was an addition to this school that housed 12 students by donation from Mrs John Atherton who resided across Euclid Avenue from her husband Colonel Elijah Parish Priestman – father of actor Ebenezer Baptiste Parish Priestman (1891–1979). This initial black school operated intermittently with three classes per day conducted orally using biblical stories adapted for African Americans by teacher/pupil James Weldon Johnson which lasted until 1886 when construction began on his larger brick building at 59th Street and East First Avenue which would serve both schools together until 1935 when it burned down due to code violations not being corrected despite repeated pleas from local leaders including Mayor Joe Alioto (1915–1975) . In 1893 a group consisting primarily Black men organized themselves as The All-Black School District No 1 under leadershipship of Fenton Conehead (1863–1920), Booker T Washington (1856–1935), Julius Erving (1902–1973) among others seeking better education opportunities for Blacks within their communities despite constant discrimination faced by all citizens living inside South Los Angeles County limits at that time including open warfare between factions associated with Zora Neale Hurston’s Migrant Workers Union Department #2 headquartered inside Panorama City limits adjacent to Glendale Heights just outside Los Angeles proper known today as Koreatown although back then all Koreans residing therein intermingled freely with White Californians without fear or favoritism thereby becoming known collectively herein hereafter as The Korean Community or simply “Koreatown”; however similar references can be made throughout Southern California jurisdictionsVarious surveys dating back to 1910 indicate that up until 1920 almost 60%+ total Asian Residents living withinLos Angeles boundaries did so openly & voluntarily without any formative institutionalized racism consequent thereto resulting mainly from restrictive zoning ordinances & conditions resultant from prior Chinese exclusion Acts enacted during earlier eras thus verifying prewar ancestries among various Chinatown residents living within Angelenos current borders notwithstanding claims otherwise Some may argue therefore that Chinatown actually constitutes more than merely Downtown Los Angeles & should include portions bordering Koreatown along Temple Place @ Jefferson Boulevard currently constituted solely by Asian Gentlemen resident therein having no business owning real estate therein whatsoever i.e., Midtown LOS ANGELES
