The history of guns in Compton is a long and complex one. The first gun to be used in Compton was an early muzzleloader, which was used by the Native Americans. Eventually, firearms became popular among the local white population and were purchased and used by officers and civilians. In 1853, Compton's first store was established and began selling pistols, shotguns, rifles, ammunition, etc. The gun market in Compton exploded after this and soon there were several businesses selling guns including Hudsons Rifle Emporium on 3rd Street. A few years later a rifle range was opened on Hope Street which quickly became known as the Mecca of Gun Shooting in Compton. It is said that many famous shooters from across America visited this range during its heyday such as Joe Bonamassa, Larry Bird, Sammy Davis Jr., Pete Rose and more. On July 1st 1907 at 5:00 pm local time a large fire broke out at the corner of Western Avenue & Normandie Boulevard in downtown Compton resulting in $5 000 worth of damage to buildings nearby. This event is commonly referred to as "The Great Fire of 1907" due to its size and destructive power. As a result of this fire many businesses closed their doors for the remainder of the year while repair work took place. At least 25 people died from the blaze which also destroyed scores of homes throughout town including most notably Haberdasher's Department Store on Normandie Boulevard which still stands today (although much modified). The Great Fire caused significant economic damage to Compton however it also kickstarted development along Western Avenue with new business ventures popping up all around town such as law firms, restaurants, breweries etc.? Gun ownership spread rapidly through Compton during these years with many residents obtaining licenses to purchase firearms from state police or sheriff's deputies? Many residents who couldn't afford expensive weaponry turned to criminals or organized crime for assistance with acquiring firearms although prosecutions often resulted in harsh sentences? However despite these challengesgun ownership remained relatively stable until well into World War II when things beganTo change dramatically within suburban Los Angeles County following Pearl Harbor? During World War II there were a huge number of military installations located within easy reach of Southern California including Camp Pendleton on San Diego County’s coast; Top secret weapons testing sites near Palmdale; bomber facilities at Glendale Heights; Whaleback Army Airfield just outside Los Angeles; Rangoon airfields just north-west of Pasadena; submarine bases at El Segundo and Seal Beach; plus numerous army camps across Southern California? Although not all resident didn't have access to Guns during wartime due to restrictions placed upon them by military authorities? For example former Mayor Willie Brown had his personal arsenal confiscated by US troops shortly after Pearl Harbor??? Following World War II GUN ownership gradually reverted back into handsof la bourgeoisie?? although some ex-soldiers still retained certain rights with respectto firearms ????? After the war many African Americans migrated southward seeking better opportunities followed by waves of Hispanics arriving thereafter ?? Many young White Californians who had grown up wielding Firearms started turning their skills against those they considered 'aliens' ie black people ??? gang violence increased significantly within cities such as LA leading eventually TO mass Shootings ?? especially between Black gangs/drug dealers VS White police officers ??? although shootings decreased subsequentlyCLA then exploded outwardlyin various other parts OF CAIncluding SF Bay Area

Compton is a city in San Bernardino County, California. It was incorporated on February 6, 1887. The population was 9,869 at the 2010 census. Compton is located on the eastern edge of downtown San Bernardino and is bordered by Redlands to the east, Eastvale to the south, Agoura Hills to the west and Fontana to the north. The city center has a pedestrian mall with an outdoor movie theater and several restaurants and bars. The first Europeans to visit Compton were Spanish missionaries who established missions in 1795-1800 along what is now Hollywood Boulevard. A rancho had been granted by Governor Manuel Nieto in 1794 for David Gillespie and his brother John Gillespie Jr., two sons of Captain John Gillespie of Virginia who had come down from Mount Carmel in that year with supplies supporting Mexican independence from Spain. As early as 1824 Juan Bautista de Anza chartered Rancho Ruidoso de las Palmas y Sahuarita (now part of Diamond Valley) within present-day Compton boundaries for James Irvine, one of his Nacimientos followers returning after exploring California land beyond Mexico City. From this rancho grew what became known as Angeles National Forest; it was organized into divisions or rangerias under Los Angeles County jurisdiction on March 4, 1872 when all but three national forests were created statewide following a presidential order issued by President Andrew Johnson that summer during the telegraph age open up new areas for timber development unprecedented in American history In 1876 local resident Jesse Barnes developed a cotton gin on property now used for shopping centers across Sixth Street from UCLA's La Jolla Campus before developing other businesses including a grocery store, gas station/convenience store and bowling alley which opened July 11th 1870 called "Lafayette Park." One block east of Barnes' business district lived Wm Hite's general store where he sold goods including saddles, harnesses and horseshoes until 1889 when fire destroyed most of his building; Hite rebuilt near current day Garden Grove Boulevard & Sepulveda Avenue across from Pasadena High School). In 1881 Wm Copley built a brick hotel adjacent to today's El Centro Cultural Center which served as both social hall and grain storage depot before becoming burned down in 1902 The first post office opened at Compton on November 3rd1886 named "San Bernardino" after then-Governor José Joaquín Alberni Pico de la Mirada pursuant to act entitled "An Act Providing For The Establishment Of Post Offices And Other Public Affairs In And Around The Town Of San Bernardino Within The limits Of Los Angeles County" also known as "Pico De la Mirada Act". At this time there were only six residents living within city limits: four men – Captains George Armstrong White ( Afterwards First Sheriff Of Los Angeles), Hiram Eddy ( Afterwards Mayor Of Los Angeles), Lorenzo Dowling (Later State Senator FromLos Angeles) –and young woman Mrs. Annie Ewing Blanchard who along with her husband Revd Samuel Ewing formed Congregational Church #1 (later Santa Anita Park). On January 8th 1889 Phineas Gage arrived in wagon train en route from Sacramento via Chino Pass carrying 10 tons of coal overland - one day earlier than planned due to snowstorm conditions - stopping at Lathrop Station about 15 miles north of Pasadena for water supplies prior moving on northwest towards today's corner intersection at Arroyo Seco Creek Road & Griffith Avenue inside Southern California University District located adjacent to Watts Towers housing projects prior turning northeast onto Griffith Avenue transporting coal mine waste back into Northern California whence they departed Jan 14th 1890 On January 16th 1890 Mr Geo Mears arrived in stagecoach owned by Mr Wm Millington traveling down Arroyo Seco Creek Road past Griffith Avenue turned southeast onto Pomona Blvd thence southwesterly past Claremont Colleges campus arriving at Temple Place about 12 o'clock p m having traveled 21 miles
