The mounts allowed the purchase of rifles with a telescopic sight that could be placed on an rifle stock using a threaded barrel nut. In 1898, George W. Brownell developed the scope mount which allowed the purchase of rifles with a spotting scope that could be placed on an rifle stock using a dovetail-keyed Barrel Nut. This type of mount is still in use today and is known as a Brownell Scope Mount. In 1903, the J&R Telescopic Rifle Sight Company was founded in Commerce City, California, to develop and market new types of telescope mounts for hunting and target shooting purposes. The company produced many different types of telescopesmounts for various rifle models including Schmidt & Bender, Weaver Optics, Bushnell optics, Savin Optics etc.. In 1916 Elisha Beal patents his invention called the Beal Scope Mount which allows the mounting of a spotting or short range telescope on any standard rifle barrel by utilizing a dovetail keyeduniversal base plate (shown below). It is not clear when or how this type of mount became popular but it appears to have originated with Beal during World War I when he exported his device to several countries including Austria (1914), Russia (1915), France (1916) and Great Britain (1917).

Commerce, California is a town in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sierra foothills region and lies on the eastern edge of Mono Lake. The town was founded in 1881 by Alexander Graham Bell and his wife Nellie Murchison as a small trading post on what is today’s east side of Mono Lake. The original post office operated from 1881 to 1886. The first store in the community opened in 1884. By 1907, there were six stores and two hotels in the community. In 1911, telephone service began to be offered through Bell Telephone Company and a post office was built that year on the east side of Mono Lake for this purpose. During World War II, Commerce served as an ammunition dump for nearby Fort Sill during Operation Magic Carpet because it lacked anything other than farmers' fields for army use within its boundaries. In 1959, when Interstate 10 was completed between Los Angeles and Phoenix, commerce grew along with it; development rapidly followed along I-10 corridors leading directly to town center including businesses like Sears Roebuck and Kmart which offered easy access to freeway traffic while still providing local shopping opportunities outside of town limits
Commerce was founded in 1853 by three brothers, George W. and Charles B. Whitman, on a small parcel of land near the present day intersection of Paseo de la Reforma and Mission Streets in San Francisco. The Whitman brothers were motivated to start a business because they saw an opportunity to improve the quality of life for their constituents in what they believed was an underdeveloped area. The first store was built on Market Street and became known as The Merchants House. In 1865, the company moved its operations to what is now part ofVan Ness Avenue. After the war ended, it resumed its growth trajectory but experienced some slowdown during the 1920s due to technological advancements that made buying goods online more prevalent at that time. However, it rallied back during World War II thanks to its role as an importer of munitions from Japan and other wartime allies such as Germany and Italy. In 1961, the company merged with two other commercial enterprises – Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) and Western Refining Corporation – forming California's first publicly traded corporation since 1907 when incorporation law changed from state-to-state basis so businesses could be listed on securities exchanges across state lines instead of just within California. At that point, commerce ranked second only to PG&E among California's leading economic institutions behind only State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB). In 1984–85, after deregulation caused energy prices to skyrocket following OPEC's oil embargo against America’s major allies – including Iran – Commerce suffered significant financial losses as consumers shifted their spending towards cheaper alternatives spurring competition from larger retailers like JCPenney Inc., Sears Roebuck & Co., Kmart Stores Inc., Safeway Supermarkets Inc., Trader Joe’s Corp., Target Corporation and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.. However, this did not stopcommerce from continuing expanding throughout 1990 into new markets such as Florida; Texas; Arizona; New Mexico; Nevada; Utah; Oregon; Canada; Cuba etc.; while also reverting back towards its traditional strengths within Californian retail neighborhoods like North Beach/Beachwood/Mission Hill/Palo Alto/San Bruno Heights etc.).
