They named their new settlement Cedar City because they had seen cedar trees growing along US 101 near where it crossed Cedar Creek (now called Indian Canyon Road). In 1875, local ranchers started marketing mescal wine as a product of their land east of Almaona Dam on Clear Creek outside present day Coalingatown limits; this production continued until Prohibition caused its cessation in 1933 In 1886 Fritchey & Company built a mill which served as an important engine for flour production until 1917 when First National Bank took over that function No other industry operated here during prohibition; however many people did go into agriculture after repeal A post office opened here on September 3rd 1890 under the name "Anacapa" Of note: After prohibition ended some residents returned to farming but most chose not to return due to high prices for goods prohibited under state law - average price per barrel sold during Prohibition were $1 . 05 while regular black market prices were much higher at $3 per barrel
