The shooting of the Coalinga High School massacre in December 2018 left at least 14 people dead, including 10 students and three staff members. One measure would mandate universal background checks for all sales transactions when buying guns online starting from January 1st 2020; another would increase funding for mental health programs statewide; and yet anotherwould impose stiffer penalties on individuals who knowingly sell arms illegally or straw buyers who purchase weapons for someone else then intends to use them themselves

In 1913, a water pump station was built in Coalinga and became one of the initial sources of power for the community. The population of Coalinga grew rapidly during World War II as war supplies flowed into the area from nearby Los Angeles. Over 50% of all business activity in town occurred during wartime due to military needs or demand by troops stationed here.
