Gun targets have been a part of Clovis history for many years. The first target was installed on the town square in 1892. In 1916, the old post office building was converted into a gun range and shooting range. The town hall also served as a target practice ground until it burned down in 1922. In the 1940s, the city built a new City Hall which housed a Gun Range and Pistol Club that operated from 1944-1945. A local restaurant also became an indoor pistol range from 1951-1955. In 1957, Clovis hosted its first international world championships with over 100 shooters from 10 countries participating. This event is still remembered today by locals as one of the most important events in town’s history. The last time Clovis hosted an international world championship was in 1978 when they did not participate due to budget cuts at their Police Department. However, they continue to participate in regional matches now that there is a Gun Range located within walking distance of all residents.

Clovis is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is located on the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and lies within Yuba National Forest. The first people to live in what is now Clovis were the Hahns. They arrived there in 1845 and built a cabin on an overlook overlooking their farmstead. About 1850, they started trading with other settlers in nearby towns such as Dixon and Marysville. In 1857, they founded Clovis (pronounced "kloe-vis"), named after Captain James Clovis who had explored the area several years earlier. In 1868, John Sutter discovered gold near present day Fresno and soon began prospecting for additional mines in Kern County. He attracted many miners to his new venture and by 1870, most of Clovis had found gold or silver deposits. Mining continued until about 1906 when it was abandoned due to overzealous mining techniques used during those days that caused great damage to the landscape around town including extensive digging into hillsides for lodes of metal that never turned up. At its peak production, early Clovis employed more than 1,000 men; however today only a few hundred people remain employed directly or indirectly from mining operations in and around town." Today's economy relies heavily on tourism as well as agriculture which includes grapes growing on rolling hills north of town near Highway 497 also known as Yuba Valley Vineyards & Rieslings
