Clovis, California is known for its cowboy culture and gun magazines. The first magazine was published in 1892 by E. H. Weiser, a printer and bookseller in Powersville, Ohio. In 1903 the Clovis Press Company was founded with the goal of publishing a monthly magazine about firearms and their history. The company closed in 1954 but the magazine continued to be published until 1978. In 1934, the National Rifle Association (NRA) purchased the Clovis Press Company for $1 million. From then on, NRA magazines became part of their legislative arm, carrying political advertisements as well as articles on firearms topics. NRA publications ceased publication in 1978 but they continue to be preserved and are now available online. The Clovis Press Company left an important legacy behind when it came to gun magazines history; it was one of the first companies in America to publish a monthly magazine about firearms and their history

Clovis, California was founded in 1851 by Captain John C. Fremont and his men as the first permanent settlement in what is now northern California. The town was named for Captain Fremont's friend, Clovis County, New Mexico. In 1864 the town became part of the newly formed Kern County when it was created from parts of Los Angeles and Orange Counties. In 1906 Clovis moved to its present location on the outskirts of downtown Clovis after being forced to leave its original site because of land concerns about an impending city growth. Since then, Clovis has seen a number of changes including becoming a shopping center with over 60 stores and restaurants; hosting several annual events such as the Fiesta Bowl Game, the Rose Bowl Game and the Western Regional Finals; and experiencing population growth culminating with its current population size of over 30,000 people.

Clovis, California is a small city in Madera County, California. The population was 3,693 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Clovis Indian Reservation. The first European to visit Clovis was Father Junipero Serra in 1821. He named it for his mentor Saint John of God who had been born in Hungary. In 1847 Congressman George Hearst financed an expedition led by Captain Nathaniel Lyon to explore the San Joaquin Valley and its potential for irrigation purposes. They found evidence that the valley could be irrigated and founded Fresno as part of their exploration campaign which also included mapping out present-day Fresno and parts of Bakersfield and Kern counties. In 1849 Judge James Kenedy surveyed what is now Fresno and designated it as a town in honor of General José Gomez de la Hoz who had fought with Mexican forces against American forces during the Mexican-American War In 1852 Charles Goodyear established an airfield at nearby Atwater along the Central Valley Freeway, which served as the basis for his later company control over much of southern California's agricultural industry In 1865 Howland Redding discovered oil reserves near Clovis while prospecting for gold along US 101 In 1870s some families moved from central California to live near Los Angeles where they developed citrus fruits, vegetables, tractors and other businesses

Clovis, California is a city in Kern County, California. The population was 17,043 at the 2010 census. Clovis is located on the Clovis River and has been settled by Miwok and Pomo Native Americans since before European settlement of the area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Kern County were Spanish explorers who sailed up the Santa Cruz River in 1542. They named this area San Luis Rey de Baja California because of its resemblance to Rome. In 1824, Mexican land grantee Alvarado granted Rancho Rinconada to José Joaquín Moraga for his part in helping lead Mexico's successful revolt against American rule. This rancho extended from what is now downtown Fresno downriver to today's Clovis City limits. In 1846, during the Mexican-American War, General Mariano Capitanico asked United States Captain Stephen Kearny if he could find an Indian village near Yuma that could be used as a base of operations for attacking Mexican forces operating around Tucson along the Arizona border. Kearny replied that he had no knowledge of such a place and suggested that General Vallejo explore it further before making any decisions about conducting an attack. On November 5th of that year, Vallejo discovered what he thought was an Indian village situated on the banks of the Clovis River about east of present day Clovis City Limits; however upon closer inspection he realized it was actually one of many small settlements scattered throughout much of southern Kern County which had not yet come under American control following Mexico's collapse just two years earlier (1848). By November 10th all but one or two homes within miles either side of where Vallejo found evidence point towards American military presence prior to his discovery - this included numerous artillery pieces still mounted on hilltops overlooking both sides of the river from where he made his initial sighting; these were soon followed by actual troops disembarking from vessels moored at nearby Stockton ports including Yuma & Obregon which led Kearny quickly to believe there must have been some sort Of Indians Present inside those towns when he made his observation! He ordered Captain Averill Hildebrandt(Commandant at Fort Sutter)to take possessionof all available forces& march into northwest Fresno Valley with orders to burn all villages/settlements found without justification & return immediately with orders to proceed northeastward toward Sacaton Valley & report back here.. A week later on November 16th Captain Hildebrandt arrived at Sacaton Valley with news that most noncombatants had already been killed or driven away by US troops while raiding small villages off their way southward; very few natives remained alive inside any given location! Just outside present day Fresno Village limits lay also another small Apache Reservation managed by United States Colonel James Fenton known as Cochise CoPrairie after its commander-in-chief until his death in 1865.. This large Uprising Against All odds resulted In over 350+ casualties among both Mexicans and Americans including several high ranking officers such as Major Doniphan commanding 3 companies militia strong enoughTo repel Anglo invaders even though outnumbered 50:1... Lieutenant Colonel Edward Augustus Borgmancommitted suicide rather than face capture or possible execution following information obtained concerning Massacre at White Sands Missile Range northwest Anadarko Okie National Grasslands... These events helped fuel accusations between America & Mexico for nearly seventy years culminating finally with America annexing Puerto Rico in 1898

Clovis, California was settled by the Ohlone people in about 825 A.D. The first European to visit Clovis was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who landed on the peninsula in 1542. In 1848, gold was discovered on the Peninsula and settlers began to arrive from all over California. By 1850, there were more than 2,000 people living in Clovis. In 1851, the population of Clovis grew to 710 when a school and bakery were built. The town gradually became a center for trade and commerce with goods coming in from as far away as Oregon and Nevada. In 1861, the town burned down but was rebuilt with public funds and renamed after General George Custer during his battle at Bull Run that year.
