Others believe that all human populations throughout the Americas would have interacted at some point during their Prehistoric Period,[3] so any evidence supporting one hypothesis over another is suspect at best. Regardless of the cause (or lack thereof), Clovis represents an extremely important milestone for Californian history and archaeology. Not only did it contribute significantly to our understanding of ancient North America but also helped create our current view on American Indian cultures and lifestyles – something which we still use today!
The first Europeans to visit Clovis were Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In 1776, the French built a fort at Clovis and named it Fort Saint Louis after Louis XV of France. The fort was destroyed in 1813 by an American force and never rebuilt.
