Clearlake Valley is a small, agricultural town in Fresno County, California. It is located on the central coast of Clearlake Peninsula, about 20 miles east of San Francisco and 25 miles north of Fresno. The town was founded in 1868 by John C. Frick as Clearlake Station, after the valley's clear waters made it an ideal place to ship goods from the nearby mines. In 1903, the first electric light bulb was lit in Clearlake when Fritsch Brothers Electric Light Company installed a filament-type lightbulb at the corner of Main and First Streets. At that time, there were just a few businesses in Clearlake and most residents worked out of their homes or local watering holes. The following year saw the installation of one of America's first air-conditioning systems when Airene Cooling & Heating Company brought in an ice cream truck to cool down residents during summer heat waves. In 1951, Clear Lake had its own television station when KQED (Channel 4) signed on with a transmitter tower on top of Mount Diablo. In 1964, Clearlake became home to America's first open-air shopping mall when Menlo Park Shopping Center opened at Third Street and Union Pacific Road. That same year also saw the opening of America's first drive-in movie theater - The Regal Cinema - at Sixth Street and Wawona Avenue. Throughout much of its history, ClearLake has been known for its agriculture; however, it has seen significant growth over the last few years due to increased access to both land and jobs opportunities within Silicon Valley and beyond. With new apartment complexes being built along Route 101 near downtown as well as several new hotels nearby including The Westin Earls Court Resort & Spa and Sutro Tower Hotel - all within walking distance - ClearLake is quickly becoming one of Northern California's leading commercial destinations

The first post office in Clearlake was established on December 8, 1894. It was located at 137th Avenue and Euclid Street. The name "Clearlake" was given by John Fenton Hargrave who built a ranch there in 1892. In 1903, Clearlake had an estimated population of 100 people; it grew rapidly during World War II with its production of munitions for the war effort. In 1944, local residents successfully lobbied for incorporation as a town; it became an official city on January 1, 1945. The growth of Clearlake has made it one of Southern California's most diverse cities with over 50% of its citizens being Hispanic or Latino (2007 American Community Survey). Clearlake's economy has been primarily based on manufacturing since before World War II until suburbanization began beginning in the late 1960s which led to loss of jobs in traditional industries such as agriculture and printing Presses. However job losses have not been permanent and today Clear Lakes' economy relies heavily upon services such as education and tourism that are growing rapidly due to its location within easy access from major metropolitan areas throughout Southern California
The town of Clearlake, California was founded in 1868 by James W. Richardson as a small frontier community on the east side of what is now Sacramento County. It grew rapidly, and by 1886 had a population of 1,200 people. In 1892 it became part of the new city of Sacramento, and in 1934 Clearlake merged with neighboring Rancho San Rafael to form the current city.
