Clearlake is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 30,898 at the 2010 census. Clearlake is the second most populous city in San Bernardino County after San Bernardino. It is also one of the most diverse cities in California. In addition to container shipping and maritime transportation, goods exported from Clearlake include agricultural products such as fruits and vegetables, dairy products, metals (including steel), minerals (such as gold), lumber, plastics and apparel items; chemicals such as gasoline; electronics including cell phones, flat-panel TVs and digital cameras; pet food supplies; medical equipment; as well as small businesses engaged in a variety of industries including manufacturing goods made with local materials or using environmentally friendly practices

Clearlake, California is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 76,816. Clearlake was first settled in 1879 by John C. Hays and his wife Anna Maria. It became an incorporated community on February 15, 1902. The name "Clearlake" originated from the Laguna Seca region that lay between Clear Lake and the Sinkhole Lakes near Pico Rivera. The name means "clear water" or "spring of clear water." In 1935, Clearlake merged with other local communities to form the City of Riverside. The city was originally built as a small agricultural town on high ground overlooking Clear Lake and its tributaries. Agricultural production declined after World War II due to competition from new industry and suburban development in nearby Riverside and Industry cities. However, tourism has become an important part of Clearlake's economy since it is easily accessible by both car and bike from many parts of Southern California. In recent years there have been several efforts to revitalize the downtown areas including plans for a major redevelopment project which would add thousands of units to the area surrounding First Street Park (the former home of Claremont Colleges). This effort faces numerous challenges given that much land remains undeveloped outside the central business district which could be used for other purposes if completed; however, it is still one possible solution to solving some longstanding issues with downtown Clearlake's appearance and vitality
On January 12, 1846, the town of Clearlake was founded by two brothers, George and David Clearlake. The town site was purchased from the Yoknapatawpha tribe for $4 per acre. The first buildings were erected in 1847. In 1850, Clearlake had a population of twenty-five residents. In 1865, the Central Pacific Railroad reached Clearlake and began to build tracks through it. On February 15, 1866, Clearlake had a population of seventy-six people and became an incorporated town. Clearlake's first post office opened on May 1, 1865. The first mayor was Elijah Hahneman. On November 6th of that year, Clearlake voters approved a city charter which provided for three wards with five members each: one for the mayor, one each for the two school board members (one representing property owners within Ward 2 and one representing property owners within Ward 3), and one member to represent recreation purposes (the Postmaster). “The citizens of this city have complied with all its requirements for incorporation as set forth in articles thereof which have been published at large in our newspapers since last July 1st … We are now prepared to inaugurate our new government under which we live” – Mayor Elijah Hahneman
