This type of choke was later called an "Sutter" choke because it was created by John Sutter. In 1916 when oil was discovered in nearby Val Verde Springs residents formed an Oil company to drill for oil and started to name their new community after local hills or springs: Clearwater Hills (1916), Calcite Springs (1917), Pershing Wells (1920), Crystal Springs (1922) and Sunrise Lakes (1927). In 1937 when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor cutting off access to much of the Pacific Ocean Coastline America had its first taste of air raids while people lived inside bomb shelters all winter long! This experience changed lives as children learned about what could happen if things got too dangerous outside and parents taught them how to survive through emergency drills like this one that took place at Clearlake High School back then! Since World War II most jobs have moved into suburban areas such as Riverside County but the citrus industry still produces crops here including oranges, grapefruit, apples, figs etc., making Clearlake one of the top orange production areas in North America. Today there are numerous businesses based here including restaurants, banks, medical centers and other industrialists who continue to rely on agriculture for their needs even as more services move into towns like Irvine Spectrum which lies adjacent to Clear Lake proper

After years of growth without any major development happening within its boundaries, voters passed a resolution proposing that Clear Lake be annexed into Palo Alto so that it would have more direct control over its own affairs but this proposal never made it out of committee because Palo Alto felt that annexation would make clear lake too powerful politically.
