Clearlake, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California on the eastern edge of the Mojave Desert. The population was 82,763 at the 2010 census. Clearlake was founded by Mormons in 1879 as a citrus fruit and wine grower town after they abandoned their previous settlement of Rancho Santa Anita near downtown Los Angeles. In 1945, Clearlake became one of four cities to be merged into the newly created Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area. The merge made Clearlake part of what is now Orange County. In recent years, Clearlake has experienced rapid growth due to its location within easy commuting distance of Southern California's major metropolitan areas and its unrivaled quality of life. The history of Clearlake goes back over 100 years. Mormon settlers arrived in 1879 on horseback from Utah to start another farming colony in what is now San Bernardino County after abandoning their previous rancho near downtown Los Angeles. At first, the Mormons only grew oranges for export but soon began producing wine and other vegetables as well. They named their new town "Clear Lake" after one of their original holdings in Utah which had been designated for this purpose upon arrival thereiong from Nauvoo (now Illinois). The early residents were mostly men who worked on the local citrus farms until they could afford landowning status themselves around World War II when production increased significantly with moves towards travel-able atomic bomb tests at nearby Palmdale and Riverside universities combined with wartime demand for fresh fruits and vegetables that could not be grown commercially due to weather conditions or pests such as insects resistant to pesticides. After WWII ended, many farmers retired or sold out while others bought landholdings following the war effort’s high levels of output that attracted buyers from all over America including Europeans who decided to move permanently into American soil after experiencing some form of technological advancement first hand like electricity and plumbing available only in big US cities like New York City; these European immigrants brought with them various skills such as carpentry, engineering etc., transforming what had been an agricultural society into something resembling Europe’s automotive industry just prior to world WAR 2 itself! Many First Wave immigrants also took up rancherships during peacetime which served both suburban commuters living outside OfLA (and later Orange County) as well as rural farmers east/northeast OFLA who were able to sell produce directly to department stores like Macy’s & Sears consequentially diversifying LA traffic patterns generating jobs & revenue all around Clarendon Valley economy! Each successive waves spawned more assimilated second wave groups throughout ensuing decades leading eventually up today’s diverse community mosaic composed primarily predominately Anglo-American citizens alongside numerous minority ethnic communities including Mexican Americans & Asians making it one very ethnically diverse region located squarely within many large urban areas across southern CA
On July 4, 1849, the town of Clearlake was founded by James Shields and his wife Rebecca on a piece of land at the mouth of the Sacramento River. The town grew quickly, becoming a center for agriculture and trade. In 1860, Clearlake became part of California when it was acquired by Mexico in the Mexican-American War. In 1871, Clearlake became an incorporated city with a population of over 100 people. The city experienced rapid growth in the late 19th century as new industries developed in Clearlake such as meatpacking and brewery production. By 1910, Clearlake had become one of Northern California's most prosperous cities with a population of over 2,000 people. However, during World War IClearlake was targets for bombing raids by Nazi Germany. After the war ended, Clear Lakes economy slowed down as manufacturing left for other countries. However, through its partnerships with local unions and businesses, Clearlake again began to experience strong economic growth in the 1970s and 1980s.
