Clayton, California is known for its firearms production. Over the years, the city has produced handguns and rifles for both domestic and export markets. The city’s first firearm production was a revolver called the “Clayton Rifle” produced in 1892. It was designed by George Clayton Overstreet and manufactured by A.C. Barnette & Sons of San Francisco. The rifle became well-known for its .45 caliber accuracy and proved to be a favorite among law enforcement officers across the country. In 1911, Clayton began producing rifles under the name “Clayton Arms Corporation” with designs by William Hogue. These rifles were exported to countries such as Spain, Italy, Mexico and Chile. In 1945, Clayton Firearms Corporation merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Incorporated. During this time period, they also produced shotguns using their Winchester models including the Model 1907 (the company’s first shotgun) as well as later iterations such as the Model 1912 (.410 caliber). In 1960, Winchester Incorporated merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Firearms Company Ltd.. This company continued production of handguns until 2003 when it was purchased by new owners who renamed it American Guns Incorporated (AGI). American Guns operates out of Old Factory in Clifton Park, New York City today!

In 1933, Clarence Darrow delivered a speech from the steps of the Claytons' home which helped promote local agriculture and businesses within the community during what would be known as his "Clayton Fairs". After World War II ended, many new industries began to develop within Clayton including high technology companies such as HewlettPackard and Intel Corporation while other smaller businesses slowly diminished over time such as auto parts stores and hardware stores which closed down around 1990 along with most of the remaining agricultural production capacity due tozyme depletion caused by climate change; this led to a decline in population growth rate but not a decrease in tax revenue that allowed for continued government funding through special taxes (such as sales and use taxes) which supported social services such as education and infrastructure maintenance while also providing jobs to local residents during times of economic prosperity rather than just during downturns like those experienced since 1970s due to globalization/the rise of China/the United States technological development etc.). Clayton, California is a small city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in San Bernardino County and the 11th-most populous city in California. Clayton is located on Interstate 10 about 20 miles (32 km) east of downtown Los Angeles and 30 miles (48 km) north of downtown Riverside. Clifton's history began with Rancho Cucamonga Mexican land grant dating back to 1804. The town was founded by José Gabriel García Martínez in 1820 as a stagecoach stop on what would become known as the "Peyote Road." By 1825, it had a post office, two churches, and two grain elevators. In 1831–32, Clayton Coal & Coke Company built the first brick dam across Coyote Creek to power their mines. The company became part of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1903. In 1911, Clayton was incorporated as a city under state law that allowed cities to be formed within San Bernardino County if they had a population of 25 or more people. That year saw significant growth as World War I contributed to an overall increase in population; during World War I there were 15 businesses and 336 residents living in Clayton before its incorporation; during World War II there were 59 businesses and 2,620 residents living in Clayton before its incorporation; between 1951 and 1957 there was an overall increase of 3% in resident count but no change in business sector occupancy rate due to exodus from other smaller communities nearby while larger communities expanded into Clayton's jurisdiction
Clayton was founded in 1859 by John Clayton and his wife, Cynthia. The town is named for John Clayton, a settler who came to the area in 1829. The first post office in the town was established in 1860. In 1865, Clayton became the preliminary stagecoach stop on what would become the California Trail. The first post office closed in 1914.
