In 1912, Clayton merged with neighboring Bakersfield to form what would eventually become one of the most successful metropolitan areas in California; both cities enjoyed booming economic times thanks largely to their shared infrastructure projects like Interstate 5 (the “Mighty Mule”), which connected them together and made it easy for businesses to access each other without having to leave their own neighborhoods.During this time, Claytons developed into one of America’s top agricultural communities; through innovation, marketing campaigns,and careful management of resources, they managed not onlyto maintain high levelsof production but also continue expanding until well after World War II ended In 1959, when Claytons became an incorporated city under State law (as opposed to being still purely rural), it quickly grew into one of Southern Californias fastest-growing municipalities thanks largelyto its innovative planning process which pioneered many similar concepts around interlocking wards/districts throughout the city limits thereby creating more efficient governance across multiple jurisdictions
