Claremont, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. It is the second most populous city in the county after Riverside and has a population of 214,488 as of 2017. The Claremont shooting range was founded in 1927 by Colonel Edwin Hogue and his son-in-law Major Harry E. Barnes and opened to the public on October 10th, 1928. While there are other ranges throughout California, Claremont's facility is considered to have been the first statewide. In 1946, Claremont became an incorporated town and changed its name to Claremont Hills. The range has been home to many famous shooters including Ted Sorenson (world record holder for birdshot rifle), Don Stroud (a two time winner of the Olympic gold medal with his .50BMG rifle) and Jerry Miculek (the first person to win three sanctioned American Shootouts championships). The range also hosted world championships for airguns in 1989, 1995 and 1998.

Claremont, California is a city in central California. It was founded in 1858 by John C. Fremont and is located on the San Joaquin River about 25 miles (40 km) south of Fresno. The population was 49,651 at the 2010 census. Claremont has been called "The agglomeration of Arts and Sciences", and its residents are known for their creative writing, painting, music, film production, architecture, and other activities. In early 1858 Fremont named the site Claremont because he thought it would be an attractive place to live after his explorations of the area verified that there were no rocks or trees there that could support habitation. Fremont's first home in what would become Claremont was built on the east side of San Jose Creek where it meets the creek now known as Huron Avenue. A year later he erected a small wooden house on a knoll near present-day Elmira Drive to use as a office and storage facility for his new venture. By 1860 Fremont had built four more houses: one on each side of Elmira Drive between Mission Road and Woolridge Lane; one on Mission Road between Woolridge Lane and San Juan Road; one at Cloverdale Cemetery; and one at Shaw Boulevard near Santa Clara University (now Stanford University). In 1862 two brothers from Stockton - John Sutter and American Fur Company general James Wolk - settled down around Claremont with their families following their discovery of gold along the route they had traveled from Sacramento to find it. By 1865 Sutter had purchased 5 acres (20 ha) northeast of town center for $2 per acre ($24 per sq km). This parcel became known as Sutterville after him. The town began to grow rapidly when word spread through local farmers that rich veins of gold were discovered just south of town in Nevada County outside Los Angeles proper – this led to new settlers flowing into Claremont seeking land close enough to find mineral wealth but also far enough away from garlic-smoking Sacramento so they could avoid being overwhelmed by competition from Hollywood newcomers who set up businesses mining salt water ores near modern day Alhambra Hills Boulevard east of downtown Claremont today! What followed over time became typified by three core values which define Californian culture: diversity (of people, places, things), sustainability (the ability of things to continue going strong over time despite natural disasters or human interventions), and opportunity (the belief that everyone has something valuable to offer).
