Claremont, California is a small city located in the central part of San Bernardino County. The population was 54,813 at the 2010 census. It has been served by Claremont City Hall since 1907. Claremont’s rich history began with its annexation by the town of Redlands in 1887. In that year, the town manager recommended to the Board of Supervisors that Claremont be annexed because it had an area larger than any other municipality within Redlands and its population was growing rapidly. The Board agreed to annex Claremont and on October 1, 1887, incorporation papers were filed with the county recorder’s office. On December 8, 1886, farmers from parts of Riverside County petitioned for annexation into Claremont because they could not get waterlogged land south of Big Bear Lake to irrigate their crops. In 1889, when a new courthouse was built at 9th Street and Siskiyou Avenue in Redlands, Claremont became one of its anchor cities. The early years of Claremont’s growth were difficult; it lacked transportation and access to markets necessary to support a large population. However, through compromise and effort by leaders such as Mayor John Pemberton and Supervisor Jens Meyerhoff, who helped establish public works projects such as streetlights and water systems during those difficult years,[1] Claremont slowly improved over time. In 1925-26 groundbreaking occurred for what would become known as “The Great High Bridge Project” which connected downtown with surrounding neighborhoods via wide thoroughfares such as El Monte Boulevard (now SR-134). This project signaled a turnaround for Claremount after many years during which it had been seen only as an outsider community caught between two larger municipalities –Redlands on one hand and Riverside on the other.[2] During World War II: Claremont played an important role in military service both locally and nationally; many residents volunteered or were drafted into military duty either prior to or during World War II. After hostilities ended in 1945, many soldiers returned home but few civilian jobs opened up so they re-entered the workforce increasingly dependent upon government assistance programs like AFDC[3] which continued until 1969[4]. With more opportunities available outside of employment following repeal of AFDC in 1969,[5], most residents turned their attention back towards their hometown though some efforts have been made recently to revive old commercial districts around downtown[6]. Neighborhood organizations continue to play an important role throughout life by maintaining blocheries against commercial development while also helping maintain cultural aspects unique unto their particular area In 1970–1971 voters passed Proposition 13 which repealed all local tax laws except property taxes thus opening up much needed financial resources for schools across San Bernardino County[7][8]. The passage of Proposition 13 marked a turning point for urban renewal in Orange County as communities such as Irvine voted overwhelmingly against similarmeasures.; however this trend did not take hold within Claremount where citizens elected officials intent on preserving traditional values instead decided create new economic sectors within their community including farming/forestry businesses[9][10]. Today's economy reflects these changes with greater emphasis placed upon technology companies headquartered within downtown areas

Claremont's economy depended on its location as a transportation and commercial center, and it became known for its Produce Market Place. In 1865, Claremont was annexed by Los Angeles County.
