However, over the last few decades new firms have begun to open up in Citrus Heights and it has become one of the most economically vibrant communities in Contra Costa County. Today, Citrus Heights is a thriving community with many businesses and services available to its residents including winegrowing (the town has two wineries), golfing (two courses), shopping (including a large Walmart) and nightlife options such as restaurants, bars and clubs located near downtown Walnut Creek. There are also plans to add residential development around downtown citruse heights while keeping intact much of what makes this historic community unique - its stunningly well-preserved architecture and wide variety of agricultural products grown on its rolling hills
