Citrus Heights is a city located in Contra Costa County, California on the slopes of Mount Diablo. The population was 57,571 at the 2010 census. Citrus Heights is home to the largest concentration of lemon trees in Northern California. The town and its namesake are named for citrus fruits. The first Europeans to visit what is now Citrus Heights were traders from Asia who came through the region during thegolden age of exploration. In 1776, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo discovered San Francisco Bay and passed through Orange County on his way to Santa Catalina Island. After landing here, he explored Mission District and made landfall near what is now called Tomales Point on October 4th of that year. With his discovery, new areas were opening up for settlement including Contra Costa County which was divided into two parts by El Dorado Canyon- much as it would be later when Bay Area cities were carved out of Marin and Sonoma Counties respectively. In 1849, George Washington Carver founded Carverville near present day Hercules Reservoir on Upper San Pablo Creek where he farmed until his death in 1924. While living in Carverville, Carver donated land to establish citrus groves around modern day Hercules Reservoir and established a water system that allowed him to produce 300 acres (120 hectares) of fruit each season without having to pollute nearby creeks or irrigate his fields with expensive municipal water systems. In 1916, citrus magnate J P Morgan purchased 2/3rds interest in Morgan Jar Company which then became part of United Fruit Company (UFC). UFC eventually merged with American Express in1981 creating both world's largest food merchants with over $100 billion in annual sales before being sold again to Amazon five years later for $13 billion making it one of the most valuable companies ever created within our economy! In 1937 when World War II began operations against Japan’s military campaign known as “The Pacific War” many families left their homes behind for fear they may be forced into combat if they didn’t have somethingTo sell back home! Citrus Heights quickly emerged as an agricultural center due to its location between Stockton and Sacramento counties – key shipping points for war supplies reaching China via sea routes! Many farmers kept their farms while others turned their properties into residences subdivided into single family homes which still stands today! It wasn't until after World War II that Citrus Heights truly started growing as a commercial center because so many people had returned from serving in WWII! By 1950 there were over 100 businesses operating here employing over 1,000 people! This boom continued until 1978 when new economic conditions led to a rapid loss of jobs throughout Central Valley communities such as Modesto and Chico; leaving Citrus Heights once again struggling economically!! However since 2000 things have definitely mellowed out with more job growth coming from technology companies such as Apple Inc., Google parent company Alphabet Inc., Facebook LLP etcetera!!! So much so that according to recent censuses conducted by the City Government it has been declared one of California's " Designated Neighborhoods"!!! Lastly we should not forget about all those wonderful residents who contribute greatly every month just by walking or biking through town!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Citrus Heights was founded in 1887 by Don and Anna Jarvis, who immigrated from Liverpool, England. Don Jarvis was a grape grower and wine drinker who started planting oranges in his fields in 1875. In 1886, Anna Jarvis married businessman Harry Ayer and together they founded Ayer Fruit Company which grew oranges for export to Europe. In 1919 Harry Ayer passed away and his widow Phyllis continued to run the company until her death in 1978. After Phyllis' death, Citrus Heights became an independent village with its own school district. The population of Citrus Heights peaked at around 20,000 in the early 1990s but has since fallen victim to economic decline and gentrification. However, there are still a number of orange-growing businesses active within Citrus Heights today including DonJarvis Oranges Inc., Ayer Farms (a production cooperative), Hana's Japanese restaurant, Citrus Park Golf Course, and two large grocery stores - Safeway and Kroger - as well as many smaller businesses catering to local customers such as Bartlett's Floral Emporium and Home Depot.
Citrus Heights is a city located in Sacramento County, California. The population was 32,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Fremont metropolitan area. The first citrus industry in Citrus Heights was established by Fritos founder and president George Wickersham in 1922. Wickersham grew oranges from scratch on his farm south of town. In 1927, he opened the world's first self-service grocery store with a fruit stand inside an existing laundry. In 1937, citrus growers formed the Citrus Heights A&P Grocery Company to sell their product directly to consumers through small local stores rather than through large supermarkets like Safeway or Kroger which had then become dominant players in the food retailing sector. In 1945, when Walmart opened its first regional headquarters in Sacramento, it merged with Citrus Heights A&P Grocery Company forming what would become Walmart Inc.. The City of Citrus Heights was incorporated on November 8, 1954 having been authorized by voters via referendum as a non-profit community organization dedicated to promoting economic development within its boundaries and supporting social services along with land use planning and other civic functions related thereto. At that time there were only two buildings - the Administration Building (now home to the city hall) and Recreation Center - and no streets or housing developments had yet been created; all future development would come about over time as new taxes were levied for infrastructure expansion including street improvements (eastern end of town being widened from two lanes to four), water main extensions (including installation of a new pumping station), parkland acquisition (including construction of baseball diamonds near downtown), and more importantly - jobs! The original growth strategy called for an annual increase in property values amounting to $25 per acre; this goal has since been scaled back but still remains one of our most important priorities! The City annexed much neighboring unincorporated territory resulting in today’s total area: 24 square miles...Today’s vibrant mix of cultures results from having so many people living within easy commuting distance who are engaged in various types of cultural activities...Citrus Heights has always been known for its quality education opportunities...Today’s economy provides excellent job prospects for everyone who wants them!
