Citrus Heights, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 13,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area and its economy revolves around the Moreno Valley region. Citrus Heights is home to two high schools: Chaminade College Preparatory School and Phillips Exeter Academy. The first citrus trees were grown in this area by Mormon pioneers in 1851. In 1886, citrus fruit became a major crop in Citrus Heights when three brothers from Spain opened a fruitpacking company here with their brother-in-law Manuel Guerra. The Guerras ran the company until it was sold to Russian investors in 1912. The new owners changed the name to Rusk Fruit Company and produced many fruits such as oranges, apples, pears and plums before they closed down in 1925. In 1915–16 Carpinteria businessman Harry Sanger bought some of Rusk's land east of Pershing Boulevard and began growing olives thereon that would soon become Citrus Heights' leading industry (along with almonds). From 1916 until his death in 1928, Sanger was one of America's most successful agricultural entrepreneurs; he started out as an olive grower but soon moved into other crops including grapes, figs and cotton (he founded Bearna Cotton Mill on Pico Boulevard). After his death Citrus Heights acquired much of what remains today about Sanger's businesses: his enlarged acreage for orchards; production facilities for various crops; storage buildings for goods grown on those acres; Angel Stadium which later served as a movie theater complex;and more than fifty residences built on what are now parking lots surrounding Angel Stadium
