A new city hall was built in 1906 on First Street near Stanislaus Avenue to serve as the primary government center for all Chula Vista residents. That building still stands today and can be visited during business hours only because it has been used as a parking lot since 1991. In 1912, the name of the city changed from Chulasville to its current name after voters approved a referendum authorizing that change at a special election held that year. At that time there were three other cities in southern San Diego County with similar names: La Jolla (La Junta), Dana Point (Dana Point Harbor), and Miramar (Miramar Beach). In 1941–42 World War II began when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor; immediately following Pearl Harbor Japanese forces invaded California while American forces were deployed against German troops occupying Europe; both sides declared war on each other without waiting for our respective governments to ratify it; consequently this conflict came under international law as well as domestic law which gave both belligerents full rights under their own laws including military occupation without capture or trial; accordingly much fighting took place around Los Angeles between American Forces and Japanese Troops along with air raids etc.; finally on 15 Jan 45 Ushijima's "Operation 04" started[1] resulting in almost 6000 civilian dead plus more than 2000 soldiers killed or missing – making it one of largest mass shootings ever committed outside North America’s borders; thereafter General MacArthur ordered his Headquarters staff to send all available civilians away from Hiroshima before those areas reached too dangerous so they could not be contaminated[2]; needless to say this caused great outcry throughout Japan who saw us taking such action as “humiliation” leading some individuals even going so far as calling MacArthur “a traitor” later [3]: however very little public attention was given towards what actually took place within Hiroshima prefecture due largely due again to strict censorship laws which kept news out of general circulation save for select few.[4]
