After 1945 Chulasville experienced rapid decay due largely to population growth followed by suburban sprawl which has greatly impacted surface water levels throughout portions bordering downtown including those adjacent to Veterans Memorial Coliseum where extensive flooding took place following major storm events like Hurricane Katrina some years ago; however much progress has been made since then with initiatives like redevelopment plans for parts adjoining downtown that have seen results such as increasing property values while still providing significant access into Downtown by way of several popular streets especially Main Street which has seen significant restoration work done recent years including new sidewalks, lighting and street cleaning projects completed inside/around old housing stock which had been abandoned numerous times over time resulting in increased activity along this historic commercial thoroughfare throughout Downtown now generally referred to simply as Historic Main Street

Rancho San Vicente de la Vega, granted in 1769 to José Manuel Nieto and his wife María Luisa García, became one of the largest land grants in California. The area now known as Chula Vista was initially part of Rancho San Vicente de la Vega. After Mexican independence from Spain in 1821, Mexican officials transferred much of the land east of Bolsa Pass to adjoined Rancho Los Palos Verdes. In 1848, when Californians voted on whether they wanted statehood or not, Chula Vista voted against statehood but included it within the newly created county of Contra Costa. In 1851, after California’s admission into the United States as a country, Chula Vista became part of Alameda County. In 1873-1874, during Reconstruction following the American Civil War, Chula Vista served as a military post for troops loyal to Confederate General John Hunt Morgan
