Chowchilla is a census-designated place in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 598 at the 2010 census. Chowchilla is located on the east side of San Joaquin Valley along Interstate 15 and north of Bakersfield. It began as four smaller villages called Chowchilla, Poston, and Pacheco in 1879 when Anglo settlers arrived to help build the Central Pacific Railroad. These settlements grew rapidly after they were granted water rights by the federal government in 1880. The first post office was established at Chowchilla in 1881. The name "Chowchilla" comes from an early Yaqui Indian leader named Chochilaht (a variant of Choctaw Chuhtalaht), who led a force against Ulysses S. Grant's forces during the Mexican–American War in 1847. In 1863, General John Broughton awarded Chowchilla land for his new military academy which became UC Berkeley campus; original buildings still stand today on Addison Street near Hearst Avenue. In 1907, two small towns merged into one: Chowchilla and Poston merged into North Union while Pacheco became part of South Union; then finally all four merged back into Chowchilla on October 1, 1907 effective date of incorporation under state law 975-50-4 (now numbered 863). During World War II, many people worked at local munitions plants such as Alcan Industries or Bell Laboratories; areas now known as North Park and South Park off I-15 also had large numbers of wartime housing developments built including Bechtel Corporation's North Park Center just south of I-15 and Kaiser Aluminum Company'sSouth Park facilities adjacent to I-15 near present day Hesperia Boulevard/Old Hwy 1010/. Many servicemen are buried there including MacArthur Soldier Private First Class Thomas Jernigan who although killed in action during World War II remains buried there with his family Plot number: 07044723

However, some general trends can be observed. First, Spotters typically relied on landmarks or objects that they could see as they watched telescope objects; this was usually a clear rock or tree branch out in front of them. Second, Spotters were not always able to use their spotting devices continuously; instead, they would often stop observing an object and then wait for the next observation from their equipment before starting again. Finally, Spotters generally used small telescopes with high magnification capabilities - up to 3x - to observe Telescope objects.

The first people to live in Chowchilla were the Atchesons who arrived in 1866 from British Columbia. The Atchesons left for economic reasons in 1868 and their children, Lillie and John Atcheson, took up farming. They married Anna Sutter on May 15, 1870 in Chowchilla. Anna Sutter was born on February 9th, 1865, in America East Township of Folsomville (now part of Daly City), California. Her parents were Captain George Sutter and his wife Mercy Ann (née Toole). In 1881 Lillie Atcheson had four children with her husband: Harry W., Bertha M., Clyde A., and Dorothy J. They raised their families here until 1914 when they migrated to San Francisco due to the great drought that struck the US during that time period known as "The Great Depression". After spending a year living on Market Street in San Francisco they returned home to find that their land had been taken from them by developers during World War II which destroyed much of what they own now including their house where they grew up as well as many other buildings around Chowchilla including one still standing today called "The Gilded Cage" which once housed a post office. In 1945-46 David Hogg purchased much of what remains of Chowchilla from Mr. Hogg's father-in-law Donny Hagstrom who also lost his farmlands during WW2 when he became an American POW at Devil's Lake near present day Mono Lake also known as Camp Hansen which later became Mojave Desert Memorial Park after it was donated by Bruce Lytle Sandoval who then founded Chico State University there in 1959 where I am currently enrolled doing my undergraduate degree having been accepted into said university just last week! Although some buildings have since been demolished such as "The Gilded Cage" one thing has not changed however its Name - That old Ranch House still stands!
