By 1920, it had grown to a population of over 1,000 people and had annexed part of neighboring Tulare County. The post office in Chowchilla was first established in 1912. During World War II, the town became involved in the military effort as it served as an airfield for Army Air Forces bombers. The population increased even more during the war; by 1945, it had reached 3,000 people. After the war ended, Chowchilla gradually lost its importance as a community due to suburbanization and other factors. In 1977, Chowchilla was incorporated into the City of Chico. Today, Chowchilla is still an important rural community with a strong economy that relies on agriculture and ranching properties.
Chowchilla is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The name Chowchilla comes from two Spanish words: "chollo" meaning chestnut tree and "olla" meaning pond or body of water. The town was founded by Mexican American settlers in 1892 and named for the chestnut trees that grew near the original post office. In 1905, an agricultural cooperative was organized and named Chowchilla Valley Co-operative Union Farmstead No. 1 after moving to Chowchilla from Stanislaus County. In 1912, another cooperative was organized called the Central Valley Cooperative Union Cotton Mill which employed 100 workers before it closed in 1916 due to lack of demand for cotton products in World War I; however, since then there have been several other agricultural cooperatives located here such as Chico Fruits & Veggies (2007), Soil & Water Conservation District (2002), and Contra Costa Agricultural Auctioneers (2001). Chowchilla first became known as a shopping destination for people living in nearby San Francisco during the late 1800s when goods were brought overland through ranches on Highway 101 between Stockton and Paso Robles. After 1906 when land prices increased along with new transportation facilities permitted trade closer to urban areas, retail development began around Chowchilla beginning with a post office store on Main Street in 1915 which later became a restaurant/bar called The Lion's Head Mall until its closure in 1984; however, commercial development only accelerated after Proposition 14 passed by voters in 1978 allowing special permits for industrial use within town limits – this led to the construction of various restaurants/bars throughout downtown Chowchilla including The Golden Spike Tavern (now known as Soma) which opened its doors on December 12th 1981; while another significant redevelopment project occurred around First Avenue east of downtown where various businesses along First Avenue converted into apartments culminating with The Alley Dwellers complex built between 1986 and 1990 containing 157 units which includes 12 stores/restaurants totaling 5 acres retail/residential space comprising 3 levels including an underground garage used by area taxis serviceman during WWII CASUALTIES COURT ON WILSON STREET west of main street has long been one stop shop for all types of legal needs especially criminal court cases although services have been relocated to nearby Menlo Park CA since 2007

Chowchilla is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,027 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the Cholla cactus and other local plants. Chowchilla post office opened in 1887, and the first store was built on Main Street. In 1905, the town had a school and a Methodist church. In 1923, an oil well was located in Chowchilla and began to produce natural gas; that year, the town had two stores and nine residents. The first gasoline station in Chowchilla opened in 1924 by Rufus Fenton; it became a convenience store after being enlarged in 1929. That year also saw the opening of what is now Chowchilla's only high school: Chowchilla High School District #2 served students from grade 8 through 12 until it closed in 2002-2003 due to budget cuts by then-Gov Jerry Brown. In 1951-1952, local resident Harry Laughlin started growing chili peppers at his home on Topock Road near Wacoita Creek; he named his sauce "Chowchilla". From 1951 to 1957, chili pepper production increased as people discovered how good this sauce could be for cooking purposes (it replaced tomatoes as America's favorite condiment). Also during that time period, some of Chowchilla's early businesses included an ice cream parlor (now defunct), lending library services which were discontinued but still kept records there (the library remains open today as part of First American Library System). In 1958-1959 Mayor Clyde Dickey suggested building a water tower because many people were using water brought up from wells within walking distance of their houses for not drinking enough fresh water; this idea led to development of what is now known as "Dickey Park" next door to City Hall on Main Street between Cheney Avenue and Topock Road - named after Mayor Dickey himself - where citizens can gather for recreational activities such as picnics or swimming when weather permits or buy fresh fruit from vendors during summer months when prices are lower outside grocery stores/markets. A fire destroyed most of downtown Chowchilla in 1990 but didn't damage any buildings inside 'Dickey Park'. In 2000–2001 efforts began by community members organized under the banner "Save Our Local Schools" to save all but one elementary school within city limits: Chiasson Elementary School which closed its doors after 54 years service followed by Valley View Middle School which closed its doors following 36 years service - both schools have been reopened with new leadership since then with plans to keep them open into the 21st century should another primary school close within city limits again like Chiasson did?
