However, actions taken by Mayor Fenton during World War I helped change all of that. Fenton sponsored legislation that allowed citizens of Califor nia to purchase rifles and shotguns without any special requirements or permits. This caused a surge in demand for bullets and firearms throughout the state, which in turn drove down prices on both products statewide. With new technology becoming available at an ever-decreasing cost, it was no surprise that soon after World War II began American manufacturers started producing handguns again - specifically chambered for military cartridges like 7mm Remington Magnum (Rifle). Many towns across California switched over to this type of gunfire after WWII ended - Chowchilla being one example! In 1850, Mission San Francisco de Asis (1851-1855) and Mission Concepción (1857-62) were built on different hills northeast of Chowchilla. In 1861, a post office called Chocula was established at the junction of State Route 38 and Mexican Road 97.[4] It served as an agricultural center for many years before becoming a resort town known for its fishing piers and swimming holes. The town's most significant event occurred on October 25th, 1912 when it became part of Tulare County following passage of statehood legislation by Governor John Wickenheiser[5][6]. In 1916-1920 Chowchilla had its own newspaper which published until 1924 when it merged with the weekly paper in nearby Atascadero In 1951 Chowchilla united with Atascadero to form what is now Kern County

Chowchilla is a small town in Kern County, California. It is located on the east side of the US-Mexico border and was founded in 1849 by Mexican immigrants. The town has a population of about 1,500 people and it is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in Kern County. The first settlers wereMexican men who had come to farm land near present day Chowchilla from Zacatecas, Mexico. They built cabins and started a grocery store before they moved on to other ventures. In 1852, some Englishmen came across the area looking for land to settle and they purchased some of the Mexican men’s holdings. They named their new community after Captain John Fenton (1792-1851), an officer with HMS "Discovery" during American Revolutionary War who had landed at Santa Anita Fields in northeastern California in 1795. Captain Fenton had been sent by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to explore potential sites for missions in Kern County and he selected Chowchilla as his landing place because it was well situated for irrigation systems and easy access to water supplies. The first store opened up shop in what is now known as Victorian Square in 1853 and soon began serving local farmers as well as travelers heading northward through San Bernardino Valley toward Joshua Tree National Park or down into Bakersfield for goods available only at these isolated frontier settlements. In 1861, when San Bernardino Valley became part of Riverside County, Chowchilla became part of that county too – making it one of the last counties established within California before statehood occurred on January 3, 1850. One early resident/mayor was George Atherton (1812-1875). Atherton was born in Yorkshire England but immigrated to United States with his parents around 1835 when he was just 12 years old and settled near Pomona where he ran a mill until 1854 when he bought 100 acres (40 ha) south of present day Chowchilla along the then Butterfield Road which became known as Atherton Street today after him! He also served on various civic bodies including being elected sheriff several times between 1860-1876 inclusive; trustee at both Chino Hills Normal School (now Antelope Valley College) and later Claremont Colleges; member of First Parish Church since its organization; chairman Of Trustees Of Chino Hills Academy & Mrs Gertrude Houghton Waddell Chicagoland Historical Society

The town became an agricultural center during the early 20th century due to its fertile soil and proximity to Fresno and Bakersfield. In 1930, it merged with nearby Eastonville to form Chowchilla-Eastonville Township.
