The Second World War brought about a surge in demand for firearms within Chowchilla due to the increased violence occurring throughout Europe. On November 5, 2014, voters passed Measure T (Measure S) legalizing marijuana use within city limits while still prohibiting cultivation or distribution outside those boundaries; this ordinance goes into effect on January 1st,[1] 2015[2]. The City Council voted to begin issuing citations for possession beginning December 15th[3],2015[4]. This policy change comes after several years where citizens had been growing and possessing small amounts of cannabis without fear of prosecution or law enforcement action from the City’s officials.[5][6] As per Measure T Ordinance #14-004,[7], all edible cannabis products must now be produced and packaged by hand rather than being delivered through an online dispensary platform like dispensaries have become popular in recent years due to concerns around quality control issues and product liability.[8][9]

The town developed around an old military post and saw its first residents in 1881 when the United States Army built a fort on what is now Chowchilla Creek. A year later, the Post Office opened and began receiving mail from San Francisco. In 1886, a school was established in Chowchilla and continued to serve as the town's primary educational institution until it closed in 1951. In 1905, railroad tracks were laid down through what is now Chowchilla Canyon and local businesses soon sprang up to take advantage of the new transportation infrastructure. By 1910, there were several stores and two churches in town. In 1921, a hydroelectric power plant was built on the creek near present day Waco Creek Road and by 1930, industry had become one of Chowchilla's most important sources of revenue. A fire destroyed most of the town center on November 14th 1941 during World War II but due to strong community support, reconstruction began almost immediately with assistance from local businesses and citizens themselves. The first dispensary was opened within weeks of rebuilding efforts starting which allowed for relief work during wartime shortages. By 1945, more than 1,000 people lived in Chowchilla while industries had all but disappeared leaving only a few remaining buildings standing today including many residences used as public housing following the repeal of HUD regulations that regulated such activity within local communities across California following Proposition 13 (the "Real Estate Settlement Advisory Commission" decision). wasteland lay scattered throughout much of Kern County after WWII with little hope for redevelopment or popular demand for new homes until recent times when interest has begun rising once again among both homeowners who are seeking to redo their properties as well as city officials who see potential for development near existing schools and businesses which would bring jobs into not just their towns but also into other nearby cities like Visalia-Tulare
