After becoming involved with oil production, Chavez built a house on Oil Wells Hill which still stands today. chavez also started a grocery store on Main Street which remains open today as Chavez's Grocery Store No. 2

In 1905, Chino Valley was one of the most agricultural areas in the United States. The area now known as Chino is that part of California that lies east of Fresno and northwest of Los Angeles. Most of what is today Chino was farmland when it was first settled by American Indians in the early 1800s. The area became a ranching community after gold was found in 1848 in nearby Tulare County. The miners brought with them their tools, equipment, and wives, who helped ran the mines and ranches. By 1870, about 60 percent of all the land in Chino had been leased to farmers. The biggest development in this period came from Presbyterians who built a church and mission school at what is now Reseda Boulevard and Old Spanish Trail. This led to other religious groups coming to live here, including Mormons (from Utah) and Baptists (from Georgia). In 1907, an act passed by the California state legislature designated Chino Valley as a national monument for its natural beauty and history. Chino’s growth continued during World War II as military plants were built here for Lockheed Aircraft Company (now Lockheed Martin), Ford Motors Corporation, Kaiser Wilhelm AG,and others. During these years there were large-scale out-migration from Chino Valley to other parts of California because Of high unemployment rates during the war era; however many people returned once hostilities ended.
Chino, California was founded by the Chinos in 1887. The town was named for the Chino Hills, which are located in central California. The first post office in Chino opened in 1892. In 1915, the city became a part of Los Angeles County.
