Ceres, California is an unincorporated community in Mariposa County, California. It lies east of the town of Eldridge and west of the city of Fresno. The population was 1,021 at the 2010 census. Ceres is located on State Route 373 south of Interstate 5 and east of State Route 178. The name Ceres comes from the Greek word Kernos (κενός), meaning "mountain" or "peak." The Mount Whitney National Park covers most of Ceres Township and much of Ceres Mountain Borough within Mariposa County. According to the United States Census Bureau, there are no incorporated settlements in Ceres Township; it consists only of open space. According to historical records, Native Americans known as the Painted Kivas lived near present-day Ceres for centuries before European settlement began. The first white people to arrive in what is now Mariposa County were prospectors who traveled down from Yosemite Valley in 1849 looking for gold ore. They named their new home after one of Olympus's children: Kernos (κενός) means "mountain" or "peak." In 1875, a group led by Wm Hutton explored what would become Fresno Valley and discovered oil shale deposits around what is now Wasco Field in 1877. In 1893, USGS geological surveyor General George Sutter surveyed part of Fresno County including what would become Ceres township and founded a post office at Kerns Peak on July 10th with those initial settlers as its first occupants. By 1907 over 100 families had settled here along with Mr. Willard Fenton Sr., who ran a general store until his death in 1916 also leaving behind a lasting legacy - one which still exists today - a large tractown called Willard Fenton Ranch which encompasses parts of present-day Eldridge appellation within Mariposa Countyrundge

Ceres is a small town in California, located about 25 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. It has a population of about 2,000 residents and is the smallest municipality in Los Angeles County. Ceres was founded in 1915 by three brothers who were farmers. The first post office was established in Ceres on October 8, 1915. The name Ceres comes from an old European name for the planet Mars—Hera—thus meaning "the wife of Hera." The town's early history can be traced to 1885 when two brothers named Hiram and George Fenton bought 640 acres (240 hectares) of land east of Pasadena and west of Sherman Oaks with the intention of developing it into a mining village. However, this effort failed after only a few months because no ore could be found on the property. In 1916, Hiram Fenton sold his share in the company to his brother-in-law John Wesley mantle for $5,000$. At that time, Ceres consisted of just twelve dwellings and one store. By 1917, however, there were ten businesses in operation including four stores and two churches. One reason for this increase may have been due to World War I which saw an increase in demand for food products due to increasing prices at war fronts across Europe. Furthermore, although manufacturing had not yet become widespread in California during WWI like it would later become (), farming remained key due to its many benefits such as large acreage available for cultivation without pesticides or fertilizers; easy access to water resources; and mild weather conditions that allowed crops such as grapes flourish outdoors year-round despite occasional freezes or hot summers. In 1922–23 Hiram Fenton sold additional land eastward from his original holdings titleizing it as Pioneer Ranch which would eventually house over eighty thousand people who worked on its various farms while they awaited developments announced by Hiram Fenton himself called "Pioneer Village". This project ultimately failed because it was too close to some valuable mineral rights owned by other developers and also because the climate here was too warm for agriculture (). After years of planning and several bids from different companies (), construction began on what would eventually become known as Riverside Drive Cemetery () which opened its doors on May 14th, 1926 (). Although initially funded by private donations (), municipal funding became necessary soon afterwards due to rising costs associated with maintaining infrastructure like roads,. By 1932 all but one business had closed () including two churches (); however despite this economic decline,. nonethelesss people still came back to our little town looking forward every month when new development announcements would come out so we knew things weren't going bad 😕
Ceres is located in the eastern US state of California. It was first discovered by Giovanni Cassini, who named it after the goddess Diana. The asteroid was first targeted for mining by the United States in 1848, but no minerals were ever found on Ceres. In 1903, a spacecraft called NASA's Venera 3 recorded evidence of glacier activity on Ceres. This led to further exploration and study of Ceres by space agencies such as NASA and ESA over the next few decades. In 2006, NASA announced that they had identified a previously unknown type of world known as an ice planet or "dark planet". The discovery has aroused much interest among astronomers and raised new questions about the possibility of other types of planets beyond our solar system.
