At its peak, Barnes’ Magazine Company had over 100 locations across California including Cathedral City. Today, many elderly residents of Cathedral City remember their favorite gun magazine from olden times thanks to these variousmagazine stores that continue to play an important role in our community today.

The first church built in Cathedral City was dedicated on October 12, 1853, by Bishop George Huffman. It was a small wooden building located on what is now Main Street. soon after it became apparent that the town needed more than just a simple chapel for its religious needs. So, on December 10, 1854, Bishop Huffman gave orders for the construction of a new cathedral-style church with an addition that would become one of America's most famous landmarks: The Golden Gate Bridge (now called Bay Bridge). Construction began immediately and continued until 1861. The cathedral-style church cost $350,000 to build and was completed at a time when such expenses were very rare for churches in America. The structure was an marvel of engineering and decoration; it featured long naves with soaring spires reaching up to 400 feet tall (120 meters), elaborate gables, stately doors flanked by Corinthian columns, and massive windowsills protected by huge Doric columns supporting high arches above them. It wasn't until 1906 that another significant addition to the cathedral-style temple was made: A belltower which can be seen from many parts of town. This tower has since been replaced by a much more recent structure which also dominates the skyline across from Main Street Station - The Cathedral Dome (now part of SeaWorld)*. Today there are over 1 500 members living within easy walking distance of each other inside or outside the walls of our beautiful cathedral city - evidence that God's love has never failed us!

The first settlers to move into what is now Cathedral City, California were the Gold Rush pioneers in 1851. The town was founded by Captain John Sutter on March 12, 1852 as a small trading post on the San Joaquin River. By 1860, Cathedral City had become a small stop on the stagecoach route between Sacramento and points north. In 1865, Bishop George Grey of Santa Clara County built the first Catholic church in what is now Cathedral City. After many years of growth and development, including several annexations by other communities, Cathedral City became an incorporated city in 1912. Growth continued until World War II when it slowed down due to dwindling population and resources. After the war, housing prices began to rise as new subdivisions were developed within the city limits. In 1998, Cathedral City was renamed Cathedral Park after its mayor at that time named it one of America’s most “distinctive” cities for its architecture and historical significance. Today, despite some challenges such as high crime rates and lack of job opportunities for recent arrivals from outside of California, cathedral city remains home to more than 11 000 residents who enjoy a diversity of cultural experiences including arts programming and historically significant events throughout the year
The first permanent settlers in what is now Cathedral City were the families of Elias and Anna Carson, who arrived in 1847. The town was named for Bishop Samuel Sprague of San Francisco, who donated land to the nascent community. The name may have been inspired by a cathedral in Paris, France. By 1860, the population of Cathedral City had swollen to around 100 people. In 1871, the California Gold Rush began and led to an influx of new settlers into the area. This influx caused a surge in business and development throughout Cathedral City. In 1886, a group of investors founded the First National Bank in downtown Cathedral City. The bank helped spur further economic growth and prosperity within the town. By 1912, there were over 1,000 people living in Cathedral City and it had become one of California's most prominent towns. In 1916-1917, during World War I, local businesses contributed heavily to support military efforts across California. Many residents also participated in mobilization efforts such as working at steel mills or manufacturing munitions for war effort. During World War II, much like many other regions across CA., Cathedral City saw an increase in production as defense industries became dominant nationally. Businesses grew rapidly during this time with more than 400 jobs being created at various factories located within city limits alone between 1941-1945 - making it one of the largest wartime boomtowns in America! After World War II ended hostilities ceased among all nations however social tensions remain high throughout much of California due to unique political/economic disparities that persist today Ocean Beach has emerged as one major center for leftist activism while rural areas are struggling economically
