In 1924, Congress passed the Home Rule Act which granted voting rights to Native Americans within federally negotiated reservations in California. Cathedral City became one of the five cities within Indian Territory that voted to become a city on November 3rd of that year. On July 10th of 1928, Mayor Frank Jablonski dedicated First Baptist Church as the first public building in what is today Cathedral City. On December 12th of 1936, two days after Japanese bombers bombed Pearl Harbor creating World War II, President Franklin D Roosevelt ordered all American churches along with other targets to shelter inside during an air raid because he believed they were capacitor storage facilities used by Japan’s Imperial Army armaments industry; this event is known as “the great bombing campaign” or “the war years” in America due to civilian casualties caused by RAF raids over America during those years including many people living near Los Angeles Municipal Airport at Redondo Beach where fuel dumps were located and small fires were started from time-to-time from burning capacitors stored there) . Aftermath: More than 100 people died and thousands more were injured when bombs dropped nearby causing extensive damage across Southern California; Over $50 million worth of damage was caused alone
