However, during the 1960s and 1970s there was an effort to increase population growth within Carson through land reclamation projects which caused extensive flooding that destroyed many homes along Withrow Road between Encino Boulevard and Weldon Avenue; these projects were later halted when environmental concerns were raised about potential ecological damage caused by high levels of water table sodiumpresent in some areas adjacent to these lands
