The city's demographics have shifted over time with increasing Hispanic populations being majority since 1980; African Americans make up about 10% of the population now while Asians make up almost 30%. In terms of socio-economic status ranking according to 2016 census data: Carson has consistently placed within top 25% cities for median household incomes nationwide with little change since 2000 rankings when there was only slight drop among certain groups/subdivisions within city limits
