Carpinteria, California is a small town located in Southern California. It has a population of about 95,000 people and it is the most northerly city in Los Angeles County. The town was founded by Mexicans who came overland from Mexico City in 1848. Carpinteria became an incorporated town on December 1, 1909. It had a population of about 105,000 people as of 2010. The first guns that were used in this area were pistols and rifles made by Mexican American Armory Company (MAA). The company was established in 1907 by Manuel Hidalgo and Emeterio Castilla y Alvarado. MAA produced handguns, shotguns, rifles, machineguns and revolvers for the Mexican American community. One of their most famous products was the Model 1911 Pistol which was designed by John Browning himself. In 1932, George Anschutz bought the MAA company and merged it into his newly formed Firearms Corporation of America (FACA). In 1933, FACA began producing rifles under the name "Riflemen". In 1934-35 FACA produced the world's first assault rifle called "M1 Garand". A few years later they produced carbines as well but these were not very successful due to high production costs associated with new technology at that time. The final product from Riflesmen fame was the BAR which is still beingproduced today by ArmaLite Incorporated (ALI)

It is located on the Carpinteria Lakeshore and it has been the location of many notable events in its history. The town was founded by pioneers John Sutter and Joseph Lickley in 1849. In 1868, Carpinteria became part of the U.S. state of California after it was gained from Mexico as part of the Mexican–American War Treaty. The first post office opened in Carpinteria on November 10, 1869. The towns growth began due to its proximity to Canoga Park and Palo Alto for shopping and entertainment opportunities as well as its access to water resources which made it an ideal location for farming and ranching operations. By 1902, when Carpinteria had a population of 20 people, most importantly Grover Cleveland who came to visit during his campaign trip around that time, carpentry had become a popular trade there among farmers and ranchers alike due to its easy availability of wood or other materials needed for construction projects outdoors or in their homes inside the natural environment around them
